Principal Advanced Algorithm Engineer - Electrophysiology

Boston Scientific has been a global medical technology leader for more than 35 years. Our mission is to transform lives through innovative medical solutions that improve the quality of patient care. The Waltham-based division is a small, dynamic, fast-growing part of Boston Scientific's Electrophysiology Division with a highly talented team supporting the development of our EP portfolio. The high-resolution 3D maps of the electrical activity of the human heart provided by our cardiac mapping system are used by physicians to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmia.

The Principal Advanced Algorithm Engineer will serve as a technical leader and strategic innovator in the design and development of novel algorithms and tools for cutting-edge medical applications in Cardiac Electrophysiology. This role requires not only deep technical expertise but also the ability to set vision and influence the future direction of Boston Scientific's electrophysiology portfolio in the mapping space.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of advanced processing algorithms applied to complex biological signals, ensuring scalability, robustness, and clinical relevance.
  • Drive feasibility validation and establish technical roadmaps for successful transfer to commercial integration.
  • Provide technical leadership within the Concept Development Team, mentoring engineers and guiding ideation, prototyping, and refinement of new algorithmic approaches.
  • Author and review high-quality technical documentation and ensure adherence to best practices in software engineering and algorithm development.
  • Influence cross-disciplinary collaboration (Hardware, Software, Systems, Mechanical Engineering) to maximize end-to-end solution value and accelerate innovation.
  • Define and articulate clinical feature value propositions in partnership with physicians, product managers, and regulatory teams.
  • Champion continuous improvement of development workflows, introducing advanced methodologies and tools to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced signal processing, and strategically integrate them into ongoing projects.
  • Represent Boston Scientific externally at conferences, technical forums, and collaborations with academic and industry partners.

What We're Looking For:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in product development within commercial or regulated environments, with a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions.
  • Expert-level proficiency in C++ or MATLAB/Python (or equivalent) for prototyping, modeling, data analysis, and application development.
  • Proven expertise with modern source code management tools (Git required; AccuRev experience a plus).
  • Strong foundation in data structures, mathematics, applied statistics, and advanced optimization techniques.
  • Recognized domain expertise in medical applications, biomedical signal processing, or electrophysiology.
  • Visionary mindset with the ability to balance risk and opportunity, driving innovation in ambiguous and complex problem spaces.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, capable of influencing stakeholders and presenting technical strategies to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated success in applying machine learning, inverse problems, and advanced modeling to real-world medical device challenges.
  • Track record of thought leadership, including publications, patents, or industry recognition in relevant fields.

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
