R&D Security Engineer Intern

Our R&D engineers are tasked with designing and developing implant products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. This includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient's entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Apply cybersecurity principles to ensure secure data transmission and device integrity across the continuum of care
  • Architect and support cloud-based infrastructure for device telemetry, diagnostics, and remote monitoring
  • Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes to support scalable device ecosystems
  • Integrate observability tools like DataDog and Splunk to monitor system performance and detect anomalies in real time
  • Utilize Unix/Linux environments for scripting, automation, and system-level troubleshooting
  • Contribute to AI-driven solutions that enhance diagnostic accuracy, personalize therapy, or predict cardiac events
  • Participate in technical reviews, documentation, and validation activities to meet regulatory and clinical standards
  • Innovate within the AIS division to address unmet clinical needs and push the boundaries of patient care

Required Qualifications:

  • Current rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - May 2028), graduating senior (May 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.
  • Working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or Computer Engineering
  • Must be able to start internship on May 18 or 26, 2026 and work for 12 weeks
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work
  • Experience applying cybersecurity principles or tools in a school project or professional role
  • Familiarity with cloud architecture and infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) in academic or workplace environments

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical industry experience
  • Hands-on experience deploying or managing applications using Kubernetes
  • Practical knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker in a school or work setting
  • Exposure to monitoring and observability tools like DataDog in academic or professional contexts
  • Experience using Splunk for log analysis, security insights, or operational monitoring
  • Proficiency with Unix or Linux command-line tools for scripting, troubleshooting, or system operations
  • Academic or professional experience developing or applying artificial intelligence or machine learning models
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions
