Our R&D engineers are tasked with designing and developing implant products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. This includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient's entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the design and development of implantable cardiac devices within the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group.
  • Contribute to hands-on prototyping and testing of device components and supporting technologies.
  • Create and refine CAD models for implantable systems and related tooling.
  • Analyze performance data from bench testing, simulations, or clinical feedback to inform design decisions.
  • Apply basic and advanced statistical methods to evaluate design robustness and process performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure device safety, reliability, and clinical efficacy across the continuum of care.
  • Participate in documentation, design reviews, and validation activities to meet regulatory and quality standards.
  • Engage in problem-solving and iterative development to address unmet clinical needs and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to innovation efforts that challenge existing paradigms and expand what's possible in cardiac care.

Required qualifications:

  • Current rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - May 2027), graduating senior (May 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.
  • Working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Must be able to start internship on May 18 or 26, 2026 and work for 12 weeks.
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing in academic projects or professional roles.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for component or system design.
  • Basic data and statistical analysis experience (e.g., T-tests to compare group data).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical industry experience.
  • Strong analytical skills demonstrated through problem-solving and data-driven decision-making.
  • Exposure to advanced statistical techniques such as process performance analysis or design of experiments (DOE) a bonus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams.
  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions.
