R&D Hardware Engineer Intern 2026 (ME/BME)

Our R&D engineers are tasked with designing and developing implant products for the Active Implantable Systems (AIS) group. This includes technologies that monitor, support diagnosis and treat irregular heart rhythms, heart failure, and sudden cardiac arrest. AIS provides devices and therapies for a patient's entire continuum of care, from diagnostic to treatment. This division strives to innovate and create a paradigm shift that can solve unmet clinical needs and change what is possible for patients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the design and development of implantable cardiac devices
  • Conduct testing and validation activities to assess device performance, reliability, and safety
  • Apply basic statistical and data analytics techniques to interpret test results and guide design decisions
  • Utilize LabVIEW for instrumentation control, data acquisition, and automated testing workflows
  • Use Python to support data analysis, modeling, or process automation in R&D projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure device functionality aligns with clinical and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to innovation efforts that address unmet clinical needs across the continuum of cardiac care

Required Qualifications:

  • Current rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2026 - May 2028), graduating senior (May 2026 grad) continuing on to grad school, or current grad student. Must have at least one semester of school left post-internship to qualify.
  • Working towards a Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering
  • Must be able to start internship on May 18 or 26, 2026 and work for 12 weeks
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work
  • Experience with testing-related projects in school or work
  • Basic statistics and data analytics experience in academic or professional settings

Preferred qualifications:

  • Medical industry experience
  • Experience with LabVIEW
  • Experience with Python
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse, cross-functional teams
  • Passion to learn new technologies and find new solutions
