Operations Team Lead (Industrial Solutions)

This position will be based at the BorgWarner Arden facility in Western North Carolina and will transition to a new facility in Hendersonville, NC.

All positions start at an above market pay rate for that position. Benefits are also above market and include the following for all full-time employees:

This position will organize, develop, lead and supervise the manufacturing function of a designated production area or process to ensure the achievement of the goals stated in the Business Plan for Safety, Quality, Production, Cost, Inventory, Delivery, and People.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communicating and meeting daily production schedules as guided by the production scheduling group.
  • Responsible for quality checks and testing of assembled components as designated, in-line and at the end of line assembly process.
  • Supervise and train technicians on EOL test procedures, equipment operation, and troubleshooting methods
  • Utilizes various tools to set-up machinery correctly.
  • Drive first-pass yield (FPY) improvements by working with engineering and implementing corrective actions
  • Partner with quality and engineering teams on root cause analysis
  • Ensure proper calibration, maintenance, and uptime of EOL test equipment to minimize downtime and production delays
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and engineering to resolve test failures quickly and prevent line stoppages
  • Assigns daily duties to team members and ensures team members follow standard work and/or work instructions.
  • Regularly provide input on staffing needs, overtime requirements, component part shortages, tooling, quality and productivity (including equipment uptime).
  • Ensure timely and accurate production reporting.
  • Develops and maintains standard work.
  • Operates equipment for team members during absences.
  • Be able to perform the team leader functions of three departments: your department and the two other departments assigned by the Supervisor or PLM.
  • Respond to abnormal events identified by team members.
  • Escalate abnormalities as appropriate.
  • Ensure 5S standards are met on a daily basis.
  • Oversee continuous training of operators. Provide guidance and leadership in teamwork, production processes, set-up and other items pertinent to departmental success.
  • Effectively work with employees to identify issues and assist in trouble shooting activities for set-up, tooling, equipment adjustments, and other situations as needed.
  • Must be able to perform all quality, SPC and documentation requirements.
  • Team leader is responsible for guiding the team and gathering input from team members ensuring objectives around safety, quality, delivery, and cost are met.
  • Team leaders will provide input into employee evaluations in draft format. Final appraisals will be determined by the Production Supervisor.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Safety Responsibilities:
  • Conduct safety trainings as required.
  • Follow up on safety issues, identify unsafe work practices and work with EHS Manager to resolve
  • Notify appropriate personnel in an emergency situation.
  • Assist employee with completion of accident reports. Ensure reports are completed accurately and entered into Gensuite immediately but no later than 24 hours
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy
  • 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Attendance on the job is essential.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to follow instructions, safety rules and regulations.
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role in the automotive industry is preferred.
