Photonics and Optics Engineer

Serve as a strategic technical advisor to DARPA program managers, advising on program direction and technology selection. Apply your expertise in photonics or free-space optics research—including materials, optical modeling, fabrication, design and optical communication methods—to support the creation and execution of government-funded R&D programs. Provide strategic assessments of emerging technologies and support independent verification and validation activities. Assist in producing and presenting findings and recommendations to Agency leadership and the broader scientific community regarding the feasibility and impact of future research programs. Help manage current research programs and facilitate the transition of program deliverables to Department of Defense stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in photonics or free-space optics research
  • Ability to develop technical documents and presentations with strict attention to detail
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with Department of Defense research and development programs
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Possession of excellent organization and client service skills
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing and editing
  • TS/SCI clearance

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $62,000.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
