Experienced/Lead Systems Engineer (Comm & Networks)
The Boeing Company is seeking an Experienced/Lead Systems Engineer (Comm & Networks) with broad standards-based networking, network management, and IT skills, preferably having worked with Government / Military secure network architectures and appliances. Knowledge of network architecture to include router and switch selection, placement, and configuration, algorithm familiarity and employment relative to IP network and WAN internetwork architectures and Ethernet LAN architectures.
Familiar with the employment of security services and technologies for both enterprise and government applications. Appliances within a network architecture to include network (HAIPE) and link level encryption (ECE), firewalls, intrusion detection/protection systems, and cross domain solutions. Ability to work with both internal Boeing network services (BEN, LabNet) for supporting lab activities, as well as supporting network design for specific program opportunities (e.g. JWI, Hybrid SATCOM). Having some experience with utilizing and setting up cloud-based network services a plus. Some specifics:
- Familiarity utilizing COTS-based network appliances from traditional supplier base (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks)
- Network Routing Protocols (Unicast Routing, multicast routing, Internet routing Protocols (RIP, OSPF, PIM, BGP), mobility and RF enhanced routing protocols (MANET))
- Network appliance software or cloud-based implementation (SDN, SASE, SSE, SD-WAN, FWaaS) as well as open-source implementations (FRR, OpenVSwitch, etc.)
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at El Segundo, CA.
Travel may be required up to 10% of the time; Domestically depending on business needs.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
- 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
- Strong networking engineering background with standards-based networking, network management, and IT skills.
- Experience with network architecture design and configuration, including routers, switches, IP/WAN internetwork architectures, and Ethernet LAN architectures.
- Knowledge of network security technologies such as firewalls, intrusion detection/protection systems, encryption, and cross-domain solutions.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
- Experience with Government/Military secure network architectures and appliances.
- Familiarity with COTS networking equipment from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto Networks.
- Knowledge of routing protocols and advanced networking methods, including RIP, OSPF, PIM, BGP, MANET, multicast, and Internet routing protocols.
- Experience with cloud-based or software-defined networking solutions, such as SDN, SASE, SSE, SD-WAN, and FWaaS.
- Experience with open-source networking implementations, such as FRR and OpenVSwitch.
