Industrial Engineer

The Industrial Engineering team within Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking an Industrial Engineer (Levels 2 or 3) to join our Skin and Spar Fabrication team located in Puyallup/Fredrickson, Washington, USA.

Position Overview:

Our Industrial Engineers will utilize manufacturing operations knowledge and business acumen to partner with cross functional teams from production operations, engineering, quality, supplier management, materials management, and program management to achieve organizational business goals and objectives. The Industrial Engineers assist in the stabilization of the production environment, implement lean methodologies, assess and perform to rate readiness requirements, as well as improve quality through root cause analysis.

The ideal candidate will have experience analyzing data to identify and understand an issue or event. Deliverables include developing simple/routine decision support visualizations and reports, dashboards and/or metrics and utilizing best practices to improve productivity through automation and standardization. Responsibilities would include supporting the production and deployment (i.e. upgrades, testing, etc.) of these tools across the Skin and Spar business unit production and support organizations.

Job Description:

  • Applies industrial engineering concepts, approaches and techniques to product, process and services to meet program requirements of moderate complexity.
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, tests, evaluates and implements processes and technology insertions by applying industrial engineering techniques and concepts to optimize production system design, operational efficiency and after-market services.
  • Monitors performance, supports production and systems to meet operational and functional requirements.
  • Translates engineering, systems, and mathematical concepts to practical applications throughout the product life cycle.
  • Researches emerging technologies and develops industrial engineering tools and processes.
  • Ensures compliance with established industry safety, design standards and ergonomic guidelines.
  • Supports the evaluation of new techniques and technological developments for integration into the production process and service operations.
  • Develops moderately complex models, databases and spreadsheets to analyze data and provides summary analysis and metrics for consultation to leaders.
  • Assists with research, design, development, improvement, and implementation of processes and tools to enhance schedule performance, lower cost, and improve quality, for large scale systems integration and asset utilization.
  • Leads metrics, data analysis, and improvement plans, related to our team’s productivity, efficiency and first-time quality; including Lean+ events, 5S improvement plans, and/or special initiatives to improve organizational effectiveness.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an Engineering field
  • 1 or more years of experience working in an engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and/or production environment
  • 1 or more years of experience defining, developing, implementing, or improving production processes.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Industrial, or Systems Engineering
  • 1 or more years of experience working with Lean Manufacturing with knowledge of lean principles
  • Experience developing metrics to drive results and business improvements.
  • Experience developing and deploying standard processes.
  • Proficient in structured problem solving.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products

Associate (Level 2) $77,350 - $104,650

Experienced (Level 3) $92,650 – $125,350
