Associate Or Mid-Level Pressurized Doors Structures Design Engineer

The Boeing Company Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an early to mid-career Structures Design Engineer to support the 787 program in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Position Overview: The Structures Design Engineer for Pressurized Doors will collaborate closely with the Doors Design Center and multiple cross-functional teams to support sustaining engineering efforts for 787 pressurized doors, including passenger, cargo, and hatch doors. This role involves supporting product design changes, coordinating with door suppliers and partners to meet build rates and aircraft delivery schedules, and working with the Design Center to develop design solutions addressing factory and fleet issues. This engineer will also support manufacturing and delivery centers with door installation and rigging checks, and investigate in-service product issues to recommend improvements. This team member will become the on-site expert for door rigging, door mechanism function and certification requirements and partner for the door design center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Design Center team in Everett, WA, to investigate in-service issues and coordinate design changes addressing manufacturing and fleet concerns. (Occasional Travel to Everett, WA is required)
  • Develop, maintain, and modify structural and component designs using 3D CAD tools and other design methods to provide product definition throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Integrate analytical and test data to validate and verify that systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Develop new design processes and tools to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of engineering efforts.
  • Research emerging technologies to conceptualize future product designs that meet projected requirements.
  • Coordinate with other engineering groups to support doors engineering work packages.
  • Support door installation and rigging activities at the Charleston factory and/or flight line. Role will require minimum of six months in a factory rotation as a mechanic performing rigging processes. Candidate will need to successfully complete certifications.
  • Initiate and manage supplier improvement activities aligned with program business unit goals, including supplier development, testing, and production coordination.
  • Communicate effectively across functions and suppliers to manage risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Lead special projects focused on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Exercise independent judgment on routine problems and situations, with a general understanding of company policies and procedures.
  • Work under general direction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in commercial aircraft engineering.
  • At least 2 years' experience in structural design or related aerospace engineering roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in structural design of airframe structures and/or mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with aircraft pressurized doors, wing moving edges, or mechanical systems is a plus.
  • Experience collaborating with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
  • Willingness to expand technical expertise beyond current experience.
  • Experience with CATIA V5 is advantageous.
