Position Summary

The Therapeutic Area Specialist Manager (TAS Manager) will be accountable for leading the team of Therapeutic Area Specialists (TAS) in Portugal, ensuring the effective execution of the commercial strategy across therapeutic areas such as oncology, neurology, cardiovascular, rheumatology, and hematology. The objective is to drive sustainable growth of existing brands in the market, prepare for upcoming launches, ensure operational excellence, and foster talent development—promoting a culture of innovation, agility, and proactive problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, and develop the TAS team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and winning culture.
  • Translate brand strategy into clear and measurable commercial action plans.
  • Oversee the implementation of key initiatives such as product launches, customer segmentation, and visit planning.
  • Ensure alignment with Marketing, Medical, Market Access, and other enabling functions such as Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, and Quality.
  • Analyze sales data, KPIs, and market trends to support strategic decision-making.
  • Demonstrate strong forecasting capabilities with a high level of accuracy.
  • Represent BMS with key customers, professional associations, and industry events.
  • Manage, through the team, interactions with hospital pharmacists and departments involved in the purchasing and supply chain.
  • Ensure proper hospital prioritization and effective account management by the sales team.
  • Drive digital transformation and innovation in commercial processes.
  • Generate more efficient and agile ways of working, challenging the status quo to test innovative approaches.
  • Promote active problem-solving at both individual and team levels, ensuring a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience as an Area Sales Manager or equivalent role in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in therapeutic areas such as oncology, neurology, cardiovascular, rheumatology, hematology, etc.
  • Deep understanding of the Portuguese healthcare system and hospital dynamics.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple brands, as well as active participation in talent development, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Ability to represent BMS in external forums and build institutional relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales impact and execute successful product launches.
  • Excellent communication skills, inspirational leadership, and strategic thinking.
  • Fluency in Portuguese and English (Spanish is a plus).

  • Strategic Thinking & Articulation Critically analyse data and insights to define strategic options. Communicate a compelling brand narrative aligned with strategic goals.
  • Data-Driven Customer Experience Design simplified, customer-centric experiences aligned with portfolio strategy. Use omnichannel tools to enhance engagement across the customer journey.
  • Financial & Business Acumen Manage and optimise financial aspects of business initiatives. Evaluate performance through ROI and other financial metrics. Customer-oriented mindset.
