Operating Systems Engineer
Designs, builds, deploys, evaluates and maintains existing operating systems golden images for on premises and in the cloud (AWS and Azure. and future IT infrastructure. Ensures all IT operating systems are tested, hardened to function efficiently and seamlessly. Applies in-depth experience with components of on-premises and cloud infrastructure. Plans, acquires, and coordinates the testing, certification and adoption of compute operating systems, across the enterprise. Designs and administers automated Linux/Unix and systems tools playbooks for enterprise server deployment server visualization technologies. Acts as the primary technical liaison between Infrastructure and other IT teams, vendors and partners, as well as the business to design and deliver for foundational operating systems deployment.
Responsibilities:
- Works to determine enterprise security controls and identify any threats to the platform operating systems (hardening and remediations)
- Diagnoses complex operating system server issues and implements corrective solutionsβ for support teams.
- Tracks vulnerabilities through monthly REDHAT content views, test, applies remediation and certifies for enterprise usage.
- Tracks operating system currency, tests and certifies for deployment
- Conducts new operating system studies to determine the likelihood of proposed project's success in the current environment.β
- Administers automated workflow tools, middleware application servers and server visualization technologies templates (e.g. VMware, Red Hat Virtualization) to maximise their efficiency.β
- Performs internal audit controls and participates in audit
- Performs operating systems software and hardware interoperability - researches and recommends upgrades.
- Manages and coordinates the release of changes into production applying standardized procedures and minimizing risk to existing services.
- Creates release plans, test and validation strategies, schedules and tracking systems tools to coordinate the contents of release packages for and business applications.
- Evaluates effectiveness of current operating systems and supports in developing improvement strategies based on the findings.β
- Focus is primarily on infrastructure, application, cloud and systems groups; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.
Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Salary: $75,900.00 - $141,900.00
