Senior DevOps Engineering Manager

As a Senior DevOps Engineering Manager, you will think Customer First Always, supporting and working within Tribes and Squads to accelerate product delivery to customers. You'll play a vital part in leading teams to build platforms and technologies to power our products and enable our squads to have a great developer experience. This role provides progression from a DevOps Engineering Manager position, covering a broad level of responsibilities with a remit based on experience and size of tribe. You can lead multiple cross-functional DevOps Engineering Teams to develop products that realize customer and commercial outcomes. You'll take responsibility for enabling the Software Engineering roadmaps in your tribe through removing obstacles and anticipating blockers, providing a clear vision to squads and ensuring they are set up to succeed. You'll ensure all squads have effective CI/CD pipelines and coach squads to use Agile & DevOps techniques to build, test & release their own applications. As an experienced leader of people, you can manage teams and managers and take responsibility for ensuring that squads are aligned and engaged with their roadmaps.

Leading, inspiring and motivating DevOps Engineering Managers and DevOps Engineers in your tribe, coaching them and supporting them in leading their teams.

Championing DevOps practices across your tribe and fostering a culture of transparency & openness.

Taking responsibility for ensuring every team member has 1:1s, clear objectives, performance reviews and career development plans.

Measuring and achieving high levels of employee engagement, maximizing retention of team members through effective leadership.

Leading recruitment and onboarding of engineering talent to form high-performing teams with aligned technical expertise and strategic focus.

Understanding how squads operate, identifying dependencies and enabling them to deliver effectively by structuring squads to drive efficiency, knowledge transfer and innovation.

Continuously improving processes through automation, implementation of common standards and patterns.

Fostering an appropriate sense of urgency where squads deliver at pace and deadlines are met.

Actively measuring and reviewing Agile squad metrics and software quality to ensure teams are high performing.

Providing technical direction for design, deployment and testing, from inception to release.

Serving as a key contact within the squad areas you represent, giving stakeholder updates and being a source of knowledge for the wider business.

Taking responsibility for the operational reliability of the infrastructure of your tribe.

Working cross-functionally to align priorities, manage dependencies, and remove blockers — ensuring technical solutions align with broader engineering and business strategy.

Representing your teams in planning and leadership forums, ensuring visibility, alignment, and effective communication.

Supporting the Head of Technology on broader organizational initiatives, including compliance, governance, and security best practices, ensuring these are embedded across squads and engineering processes.

Proven track record of leading and managing teams on complex projects using agile methods for project delivery.

Expertise in managing engineering talent, from hiring and onboarding to mentoring and performance management.

Ability to manage high levels of complexity, successfully leading multiple major workstreams in parallel to drive business outcomes.

Demonstrates sufficient technical acumen to drive innovation, reliability and maintainability through the service lifecycle.

Broad technical knowledge of DevOps practices and engineering with strong understanding of scalable, reliable systems.

Experience working with distributed, redundant and transactional systems and the testing of these.

Strategic mindset with ability to align technical solutions with broader business goals and engineering objectives.

Comfortable leader and confident communicator able to explain complex technical ideas to technical & non-technical stakeholders.

Strong focus on ownership of roadmaps in order to deliver value for our customers.

Ability to clearly set priorities and focus on what is the most important task at hand.

Ability to define, implement, and track SLOs to measure platform reliability, scalability and operational effectiveness.

Excellent communication skills with ability to influence and drive change at all levels of the organization.

Experience championing engineering best practices, including automation, observability, and secure-by-default approaches.

A passion for building a healthy, inclusive, and high-performing team culture focused on continuous improvement and ownership.
