Electrical Engineer (BESIX Water & Environment)

BESIX Environment is the independent entity within the BESIX Group that focuses on the development, engineering, construction, start-up & commissioning, and R&D of projects in the field of water, sustainable energy, and hydrogen infrastructure.

Within these projects, BESIX Environment is responsible for the process and the MEICA scope (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation). Projects range from wastewater treatment plants and water reuse facilities for municipal or industrial clients (including technologies for sludge and biogas treatment), to industrial applications for process water (cooling water, demiwater, ultrapure water), drinking water, pumping stations, and turbines... to biomass power plants or waste-to-energy plants that use biochemical or thermal processes, as well as infrastructure for hydrogen production, transport, and storage.

The primary role of BESIX Environment lies within the EPC scope (Engineering, Procurement & Construction), but in specific projects, this is extended with a full service contract for Operation & Maintenance.

Function Description

You will manage the electrical, instrumentation, and automation aspects of projects in both the quotation phase and the execution phase. This includes basic and detailed design, procurement, supervision of installation, and commissioning.

Your responsibilities also include researching the best solutions, selecting and following up on suppliers and subcontractors, in collaboration with other disciplines, for various projects of different nature and scope in Flanders. Projects are located within approximately one hour from Antwerp.

Tasks in Detail:

In the quotation phase:

  • Supporting the quotation responsible for preparing a technical and price proposal that best meets the requirements of the client and/or advisor.
  • Assisting in technical negotiations with the client and/or advisor and with potential subcontractors for electrical and automation works.
  • Leading technical and commercial negotiations with subcontractors/suppliers for electricity, instrumentation, and automation.

In the execution phase:

  • Supporting the project manager in determining the best (qualitative, commercial, and technical) solutions for electricity, instrumentation, and automation, in accordance with the specifications.
  • Negotiating with clients, advisors, subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Executing and following up on basic and detailed engineering together with subcontractors/suppliers.
  • Supporting the site leader or project manager in delivery, installation, commissioning, and start-up

Function Requirements

  • Electricity, Automation & Instrumentation Engineer, or equivalent by experience.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in an industrial environment; at least 8 years of total experience in the sector.
  • Language skills: fluent in French, Dutch, and English (at least level C1).
  • Experience in international markets is an asset.
  • You can work independently but also cooperate well in a team. You are flexible and can manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously.
