Role Overview

We're looking for a Geospatial Data Engineer to join our team and lead the curation, transformation, and publication of high-quality open geospatial datasets for the Cesium community. This role is ideal for someone passionate about open data, geospatial technologies, and making 3D geospatial content more accessible to developers and users around the world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and marketing teams to publish and promote new datasets.
  • Develop and maintain pipelines for efficient data transformation, tiling, and publishing, including support for partial and scheduled updates.
  • Ensure data quality, metadata completeness, and licensing compliance.
  • Champion interoperability by staying current with trends in open geospatial data, standards (e.g., OGC), and cloud-native geospatial formats.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with geospatial data, GIS tools, and data pipelines.
  • Strong proficiency with tools like GDAL, QGIS, PostGIS, and Python geospatial libraries.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python or similar for data processing and automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP) and cloud-native geospatial workflows.
  • Familiarity with geospatial formats (GeoTIFF, Shapefile, LAS/LAZ, CityGML, etc.).
  • Understanding data licensing, metadata standards, and open data ecosystems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the Cesium platform and 3D Tiles.
  • Knowledge of OGC standards and geospatial APIs.
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets (e.g., global terrain, satellite imagery).
  • Contributions to open-source geospatial projects or open data initiatives.
