Product Development Technician

We are seeking a Product Development Technician for our Brea, CA facility. This person contributes to the completion of routine technical tasks and develops solutions to routine technical problems of specified scope. Their contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals in the unit.

This is a second shift role, running 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex or multiple test requests with minimal assistance.
  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering document, reports, and drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).
  • Supports equipment qualification (IQ, OQ) and test method development.
  • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.
  • Prepares reports and summaries, including quantitative analysis.
  • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks including conditioning samples, testing, failure investigation, test method development and validation, etc..
  • Responsible for maintaining good documentation practice (GDP), good laboratory practice (GLP) and supports compliance with GLP.
  • Helps scope equipment for use and complete qualifications.
  • Works with team to on general lab functions; including calibration, equipment maintenance, implementation of safety procedures.
  • Notifies manager or team lead upon recognition of factors that may affect project.
  • Helps develop prototype processes and test set-ups.
  • Handles test specimens, equipment, and chemicals used for conditioning/testing.
  • Executes designed test protocol and conducts conditioning and testing using applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Trains and mentors junior team members on lab procedures and equipment use.
  • Effectively documents and communicates test results and completion status.
  • Follows BD policies and lab procedures.

Minimum Requirement:

  • Preferred requirement: Bachelor of Science in a technical area and at least 1 year of experience in a laboratory/R&D setting following written procedures and working collaboratively with a team.
  • Minimum requirement is high school diploma, and 8 years of experience in a lab environment (corporate or school);

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficient communication skills (written/verbal)
  • Understands Design Control with respect to Ver/Val testing
  • Well-organized and familiar with technical writing
  • Familiar with standards and regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM).
  • The ability to work effectively in a cross functional group and communicate effectively with the lab team and extended team members
  • Develops solutions to technical problems of limited scope; familiar with root cause analysis technique
  • Ability to train lower-level technicians
  • Familiarity with Statistics and software packages that conduct preliminary data analysis

Physical Demands:

  • Standing while performing task
  • Able to lift 50Lbs
  • Sitting for long periods

Work Environment:

Laboratory environment - May need to use personal protective equipment (PPE) for certain tasks where they may encounter/use chemical or human body fluid for testing.
