The Package Engineer will support and/or lead packaging project(s) involving commercial products to support business requirements. Manage and/or execute all packaging activities for materials, process, design/re-design, equipment and/or validation while exploring cost savings, standardization and efficiency opportunities.
Job Summary
- Actively participate on project teams to lead all packaging activities.
- Conceptualization of initial design options, execution of design, select, and modifications of packaging.
- Direct and lead selection of appropriate packaging equipment to meet packaging design and material requirements.
- Convert customer/Regulatory/Marketing need(s) into new product concept solutions.
- Develops prototypes of concepts and subcomponent mechanisms.
- Work with Sustainability and system optimization.
- Identify, develop and qualify optimal packaging materials and process systems. Own COGS for packaging system components.
- Designs and develops tooling and fixturing required to support commercial products.
- Lead vendors and customers to identify appropriate materials and components to meet packaging requirements.
- Analyzes concepts to ensure that the specifications (Package Performance Specifications) meet the customer, Marketing, and/or Regulatory requirements.
- Ability with design details to ensure manufacturability; accurate dimensioning and tolerances stack-up analysis.
- Provide direction to modifications as the need arises.
- Design for the end user with DFM principles.
- Write testing protocols.
- Lead appropriate documentation of activities in accordance with existing policies and procedures (Divisions, Corporate, and Regulatory compliance).
Required Qualifications
Education
- BS in Packaging Engineering or related technical field of study required
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience or related technical experience
- Drawing experience and proficiency preferred (Artios/Auto CAD, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Proven track record crafting and leading innovative packaging systems mechanisms
- Experience with TOPS/CAPE and various statistical software packages
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Microsoft Project for high level of written and communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Medical device and/or pharmaceutical experience
- Consumer Packaged Goods experience a plus
- Project management
- Manufacturing site exposure
- Experience with ISO 11607
- Prototype generation experience
- Spanish Language skills
