Biomedical Field Service Associate
The Field Service Associate is a field-based customer facing role that includes installing, servicing, maintaining, and implementing field corrective actions to the BD Life Science equipment at our customer sites in the clinical and research laboratories. BD has built a customer centric organization and our Field Service Associates represent the face of BD to our Customers.
The Field Service Associate reports to and works with the District Lead the field team to obtain formal instrument training and field-based OJT for certification on BD products. This position must comply with all Quality, GMP, ISO and safety regulations and adheres to company travel policies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, installation, and service of diagnostic instrumentation, while providing holiday and weekend on-site support, marketing assistance, exhibition representation, and clinical trials support.
- Install and service instrumentation with minimal direct supervision according to ISO and GMP standards, while troubleshooting system failures and delivering timely, effective on-site customer repairs.
- Provide excellent customer service through follow-up calls to recently serviced customers, ensuring repairs were complete and satisfactory, while properly managing company assets including electronic devices, tools, inventory parts, and company vehicle.
- Complete all required service documentation in accordance with GMP requirements, while displaying maturity and judgment in time management and maintaining expense levels within established guidelines for field service travel and site visits.
- Report quality control and technical problems in detail to the Service Center and System Support Engineering Manager, ensuring all issues are properly documented and addressed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associates degree in electrical, mechanical, or similar engineering, Biomed program or equivalent military training preferred.
- Experience with medical devices and equipment, knowledge of PC/software/LIS/networking/database management, and understanding of basic computer security concepts and best practices. Technical background is highly valued.
- Must demonstrate effective communication skills including technical writing and training abilities, positive customer interaction capabilities, and logical/methodical thinking. Effective interpersonal, organizational, prioritization, and administrative skills required.
- Ability to work both independently and in team settings. Willingness and ability to work different shifts, on-call hours, nights, and weekends when needed.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state-issued driver's license with at least 3 years of driving history and meet BD's auto safety standards.
Preferred Requirements:
- Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members, clients, and stakeholders across various platforms and situations.
- Possesses strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify issues, and develop effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Has knowledge of PC-based equipment and application software, with flexibility to travel up to 50% of time outside home geographic area as business needs dictate.
- Demonstrates physical strength and endurance to lift up to 30lbs frequently and 70lbs infrequently, push/pull materials up to 100lbs, and maintain standing, bending, and stooping positions for extended periods (up to 10 hours).
- Consistently adheres to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards and guidelines as required by company policy, ensuring workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
