Data Engineering Strategy & Performance Manager

The Data Engineering unit, in codependency with the Global Head of Data and the Global Head of Engineering, is responsible for defining and deploying the technological strategy regarding the technical capabilities, data models, data quality, protection and security, as well as the execution of data projects for the global units of BBVA.

The function of Strategy & Performance within Data Engineering can be summarized in three major blocks: 1) Participate in the strategic alignment and ensure the correct deployment of the Engineering and DATA strategy in the area, coordinating, training and collaborating in all internal initiatives of the bank's Global Investment Agenda (SDA) executed both from the sponsor and executor perspective, 2) Execute the correct operational and financial management of the BAU (Business As Usual) of the area, 3) Monitoring and control of the performance of the area in the two previous blocks, through the mechanisms defined by Engineering and Data Holding.

The Data Engineering unit, under the codependency of the Global Head of Data and the Global Head of Engineering, has the mission to define and deploy the technological strategy. This strategy covers the technical capabilities, data models, data quality, protection and security. It also takes charge of the execution of data projects for the global units of BBVA.

The Data Engineering unit is structured in various disciplines: Data Modelling & Development, Data Security, Data Architecture and Architecture Solutions. It also includes the Global Data Hub, responsible for the ingestion, quality and end-to-end operativization of data for consumption in the Holding areas. Additionally, Data Engineering is responsible for the development and operation of "data assets", leading the discipline of Machine Learning Engineering.

The role of Strategy & Performance within Data Engineering is articulated in three fundamental pillars:

• Strategic Alignment and Deployment: Participate in the strategic alignment and ensure the correct implementation of the Engineering and DATA strategy in the area. This involves coordinating, training and collaborating in all internal initiatives of the bank's Global Investment Agenda (SDA), both from the sponsor and executor perspective.
• Operational and Financial Management: Execute efficient management and coordination of the BAU (Business As Usual) operational and financial area.
• Monitoring and Performance Control: Carry out the monitoring and control of the performance of the area in the two previous pillars, using the mechanisms defined by Engineering and Data Holding.

Description of functions:

• Provide strategic support, through planning and financial control in the coordination of Data Engineering managing the key KPIs of the area. Control the correct performance of the same through proactive action plans.
• Collaborate with the Head of S&C Data Engineering to provide service and ensure strategic alignment within the unit:
• Direct responsibility in the elaboration and follow-up of budgets (CAPEX and OPEX), as well as the management of deviations and resolution of other possible issues related to them (elevation of offers, follow-up of incurred, licenses and hosting, FIG lines, etc.).
• Collection of management information and analysis of the same to facilitate data-driven decision making.
• Financial analysis and reporting with other units within and outside the area.
• Optimization of the budgeting, portfolio and staffing processes of the unit.
• Participate actively in the supervision and collaboration of key projects for Finance of the different holding areas in which Data Engineering collaborates.
• Collaborate in the communication processes of the unit and support in the coordination of Wellness & Engagement initiatives.

Required profile:

• Introduction about the profile sought: Dynamic and proactive profile with good potential in areas of planning, financial and strategic analysis, execution and cross-communication within and outside the world of Data engineering. Communication skills and assertiveness with different stakeholders, especially in complex, multinational and multi-area environments.

• Experience required:
• Experience in management and/or execution of projects (>1 year).
• Work in integrated projects in multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge in the area of management processes of a financial entity unit (financial analysis, management information, portfolio & staffing management, capacity planning).
• Analytical skills for financial management/metrics/follow-ups supporting the construction of data-driven decisions. Construction of financial estimation models for financial projection calculations.
• Knowledge of the Engineering/IT world, specifically in the discipline of data analytics and the use of generative artificial intelligence.
