NPL now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as an Engineer - Planning - MES Underground.
Reporting to the Senior Planning Engineer, the Underground Engineer, Planning is responsible for development, optimization and maintenance of short to medium term underground mine plans. The role supports safe, efficient and cost-effective mining operations through high-quality technical planning, scheduling and engineering analysis, while ensuring compliance with statutory, safety and company standards.
In this role, you will:
• Develop and maintain short-term, medium-term underground plans
• Design underground development layouts, infrastructure plans in accordance with geotechnical, ventilation and operational requirements
• Ensure integration of geology, geotechnical, ventilation and survey inputs into mine plans
• Develop Short and Mid-Term schedule using Excel, Deswik scheduler.
• Evaluation alternative mining methods and sequencing options to optimize productivity and cost.
• Track plan versus actual performance and provide variance analysis
• Conduct trade-off studies and risk assessments
• Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL's Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures
• Provide engineering support to underground operations, including production trouble shooting and design modifications
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
• Tertiary Qualifications in Mine Engineering, or related
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in Underground Mining environment
• Experience with underground mining methods (Longhole open stoping)
• Working knowledge of relevant mining legislation and safety standards
• Membership of AusIMM and Engineers PNG (IEPNG)
• Proficiency in mining technology and heavy equipment, advanced skills in mine planning software (preferably Deswik), strong computer skills, excellent Knowledge of open pit mining technology and heavy production equipment
• High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG.
• Combination of office-based planning work and Underground site exposure
• May require rostered shift or site-based rosters depending on operation
• Use of PPE and adherence to all safety protocols required
