Job Title

Purpose of the Role: To lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Director Expectations:

  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes are in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.

Lead and Manage Delivery:

  • Lead and manage delivery across multiple programmes of work that impact the Digital Client Reporting Application (CLR), using the latest technology and methodologies, to deliver for the Corporate Bank.
  • Deliver technology solutions from inception through to implementation/closure. Work with programme AEs to ensure the right client and technical/architectural outcomes are achieved.
  • To help conceive, design, develop & deliver innovative IT solutions to provide enhanced customer experience for corporate digital banking clients.
  • To lead components of system engineering activity for applications / products across the end-to-end software development lifecycle.
  • Lead the engineering development teams responsible for building and maintaining digital applications/services.
  • Accountable for the quality and robustness of the digital applications and platforms.
  • Establish and lead a team to deliver and maintain broad set of Digital Experience systems.
  • Accountable for delivery of business outcomes for Digital CX and work closely with business stakeholders to grow new revenue through digital relationship with clients.
  • Ownership of customer journeys for corporate clients.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Experience building world class software and building and managing high performing software development teams
  • Lead engineering team in the development and support of strategic reporting application and mobile application for corporate clients
  • Expertise in Java stack, spring boots, front-end technologies (Angular & React), Micro-services, ETL, DevOps tools and Cloud Platform
  • Deep dive into product design and provide engineering solution in line with industry standard
  • Proven ability to build effective internal relationships
  • Experience in conceiving test strategy (approach, E2E testing and Automation) and implement it portfolio wide
  • Ability to collaborate across teams to deliver complex systems and components and evaluate code for performance, understand key code metrics and take design decisions
  • Knowledge of DevOps and CI:CD
  • Experience of participating as a member of an Agile development team
  • Experience building critical software with 24x7 availability, high performance and resilient
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage upwards and downwards, working closely with senior business leaders
  • Experience of managing business change/transformation challenges
  • Strong leadership skills with evidence of managing large teams across a range of disciplines and locations
  • Fully up to date with developments in individual area of expertise and will be expected to keep abreast of emerging technologies and potential for application within the Bank.
  • Ability to negotiate and solicit engagement at all levels of the organisation, and strong experience of working with senior stakeholders.
  • Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self-organization.
  • Governance and compliance policies, standards, and procedures required to fulfil role e.g. data security, records management.
