Functions And Responsibilities

Technical Planning And Selection Of Drill Bits

  • Perform offset well analysis and design drill bit programs based on lithology, drilling parameters, and client objectives.
  • Select the appropriate type of drill bit (PDC, Roller Cone, Hybrid), geometries, cutters, and bit configuration.
  • Coordinate resources, inventories, repair, availability, and certification of drill bits.
  • Integrate BHA design considering motors, RSS, stabilizers, and directional control tools.

Operational Management

  • Provide real-time technical support on drill bit performance, wear, ROP, and mechanical efficiency.
  • Monitor key parameters:
    • WOB, RPM, flow, differential
    • Vibrations, stick-slip, whirl
    • MSE (Mechanical Specific Energy)
  • Analyze causes of low performance and issue recommendations for optimization.
  • Ensure proper recovery, IADC coding, and post-run wear analysis (bit dull grading).

Client Relationship

  • Be the main technical liaison with the client for drill bit-related issues.
  • Present technical proposals, benchmarking, offset analysis, ROP predictions, and drilling strategies.
  • Participate in DWOP, pre-job, post-job, and performance reviews.
  • Provide support for decision-making on BHA changes, parameters, or new design selection.

Cost Control, KPIs, And Reports
