Development Manufacturing Engineer
BAE Systems SMS's Westminster Colorado location develops and manufactures state of the art RF & sensor technologies. The Manufacturing & Test Operations group comprises of talented individuals who are passionate about delivering new capabilities, optimizing efficiencies and driving resiliency across our infrastructure. The Development Manufacturing Engineer has a challenging and dynamic role that requires a strong operational contributor. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership experience responsible for leading a portfolio, developing a strong relationship with multiple business units and customer (both internal and external), define strong relationships with contract manufacturers and help grow an expanding product portfolio within BAE Systems SMS.
The Tactical Solutions Strategic Business Unit delivers mission system solutions, from specialized antennas to electro-optical technologies, to the warfighter. Our systems enhance the performance of various military platforms, from aircraft and land vehicles to ships and satellites, and give warfighters the advantage they need to take action, identify targets and defend against evolving threats.
What You'll Do:
- Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support for products and processes within a development value stream.
- Extensive knowledge on how to pull, analyze and evaluate data, implement improvements to meet KPI, quality and performance requirements. Interpret SPC data to drive RC/CA.
- Perform design reviews of drawings, procedures and engineering orders for completeness. Implement engineering changes and incorporate corrective action. Modify, refine and provide input to ensure design producibility. Responsible for overall manufacturing viability to requirements as well as successful completion of engineering tasks on the portfolio.
- Following the principles defined within AS6500, facilitate the necessary steps to produce products and processes that meet or exceed requirements.
- Ensure all manufacturing procedures, processes, records and reports in alignment with Quality Management System and/or contract requirements for quality and performance. Responsible for overall Manufacturing Plan.
- Proficient understanding and use of in-house business systems including Manufacturing Execution System, manufacturing shop floor control, internal status reporting, and product data management system.
- Coordinate design-to-cost activities; track cost impact from design changes; report accordingly to design teams.
- Supply Chain Activities:
- Author, manage and influence critical path releases of Statements of Works (SOWs) and plans to align with required schedules and subcontractor lead times
- Provide technical support to supply chain for subcontractors, materials, equipment, supplies and services of a highly specialized and complex nature through all phases of the program lifecycle with Zero Defect mindset, ensuring quality, OTD, and program schedule is maintained.
- Provide guidance, support and mentorship to junior colleagues through knowledge sharing, constructive feedback & skill development.
- Work independently or in a team environment to resolve issues using data-based root cause analysis; diligently applies firm corrective actions.
- Demonstrates the ability to organize information, job tasks, and manage time for most efficient and effective performance. Establishes personal objectives; sets expectations of self that are aligned with organizational and departmental goals.
- Lead the program portfolio with a Lean coaching approach, putting problems first, and continuously collaborate to find efficiencies.
- Contribute to collection and analysis of technical data in support of technical exchange meetings, design reviews, manufacturing readiness reviews, and program status reviews with program managers and customers.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including Design, Development/Test Engineering, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain Management, Process Labs and outside suppliers.
- Support current and new business proposals including estimating labor, other direct costs, technical planning, manufacturing volume write-up, etc.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather conditions.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
- Experience developing and maintaining strong customer relationships, establishing a deep understanding of the organizational mission.
- Experience in data analytics
- Advance knowledge of DFM and LPPD principles.
- Demonstrates the ability to organize information, job tasks, and manage time for most efficient and effective performance.
- Experience in Aerospace Industry, preferably product and process development.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- A current, active Secret security clearance.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $130355 - $221603. Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
