Food Service Associate
Contributes to the hospital's mission by supporting the efforts of the food service/dietary teams to produce and distribute quality food to patients and the communities served. This position will have an impact on patient, employee, and visitor satisfaction by providing superior customer service in a clean, safe environment.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
- Effectively communicate with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
- Assemble daily menu items accommodating diet restrictions, allergies, and ethnic preferences.
- Maintain tray-line standards to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality patient trays.
- Ensure proper food temperatures and storage.
- Serve food in the cafeteria and assist in any preparation needs for retail menus.
- Follow cash and credit handling procedures in the register area.
- Produce and portion products according to established par levels utilizing recipes or directions.
- Clean and sanitize equipment and utensils as directed.
- Maintain effective communication with all personnel and patients to ensure smooth kitchen operation.
- Accurately inventory, clean, rotate stock, discard outdated items, restock, and wipe out refrigerators.
- Receive and date shipment for storage.
- Complete all dish-room functions accurately and in a timely way to ensure proper sanitation.
- Follow established sanitation guidelines to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Maintain a "CLEAN AS YOU GO" policy using prescribed methods.
- Attend all employee meetings and in-services as scheduled by the supervisor.
Reporting Requirements:
- Report any questions referring to diets to management for resolution.
- Inform supervisor of any problems that arise.
- Report all unsafe conditions and improper articles to supervisor immediately.
Accountability:
- Maintain all food service standards to ensure food is prepared accurately, timely, and of good quality.
- Observe hospital policies and procedures.
- Observe all policies and procedures of the department including Safety, Sanitation, Infection Control, and Fire Safety.
Job Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two years experience in food service/customer service environment preferred. Patient feeding experience with all age groups and diet experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of basic principles of nutrition, diets, recipes, food preparation, and service.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with a background in customer or patient service.
- Ability to follow standards of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and JCAHO requirements for sanitation, food preparation, and handling.
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs and transport the meal cart to unit floors for meal service without assistance.
- Sufficient dexterity to handle food and equipment efficiently and safely.
- Position requires incumbent to walk and stand 95% of the time while engaged in job routine activities.
- Must satisfy the Fit Test Requirements for using the N95 Respirator Mask.
- Ongoing training in-services required.
Compensation Range: $17.17-$25.51
