The Opportunity

Avantor is looking for a ServiceNow Developer. He/She should be a key member of the IT Service Standards team, responsible for the strategic design, governance, and continuous improvement of the ServiceNow platform. Reporting to the Manager of IT Service Management, this role ensures the platform evolves in alignment with business needs, ITSM best practices, and the enterprise architecture.

Blending technical leadership with operational ownership, the Developer manages core ServiceNow modules (Incident, Problem, Change, CMDB), drives platform governance, and ensures compliance with security and development standards. The role includes mentoring support teams, leading complex development efforts, managing integrations, and contributing to the platform roadmap. This position plays a critical role in enabling global IT operations and digital transformation.

What We're Looking For

Education: Associate degree or equivalent work experience required; bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum 4 years of hands-on ServiceNow development experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Application Developer (CAD) certification required.
  • ITIL v3 or higher certification required.
  • Experience with core ServiceNow modules (Incident, Problem, Change, CMDB) required.
  • Proficiency in Business Rules, Client Scripts, UI Policies, Script Includes, Access Controls, and Service Portal.
  • Experience with CMDB management and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with web technologies (Bootstrap, AngularJS) and third-party integrations.
  • Experience with ITOM and HRSD modules is a strong plus.
  • Additional ServiceNow implementation certifications are a plus.

Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of ServiceNow architecture, data modeling, and application scoping.
  • Strong grasp of ITSM processes and CMDB best practices.
  • Familiarity with integration protocols and security standards.

Skills

  • Expert-level JavaScript and Glide API proficiency with hands-on experience in debugging and update set management.
  • Skilled in architecting scalable and normalized data models using custom tables, CMDB extensions, and Application Scoping.
  • Skilled in configuring Flow Designer, Scripted REST APIs, UI Policies, Business Rules, Client Scripts, Script Includes, UI Actions, UI Pages, and Performance Analytics.
  • Ability to build interactive dashboards and reporting frameworks.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; able to translate technical concepts for business stakeholders.

  • Lead small projects, manage timelines, and coordinate resources.
  • Build strong relationships across IT and business units.
  • Work independently while contributing to team goals.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly and concisely. Build and maintain strong relationships with business units, IT teams, and executives.

Development & Configuration

  • Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions using workflows, business rules, UI policies, and integrations.
  • Champion platform architecture decisions, ensuring maintainability, performance, and security.
  • Own and enhance the configuration management area, including CMDB structure and data quality.
  • Lead design reviews and technical governance for all ServiceNow development efforts across teams.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, estimate effort, and deliver enhancements.

CMDB & Platform Ownership

  • Define and execute the strategic roadmap for CMDB maturity and alignment with ITSM operations.
  • Establish data quality frameworks and automated reconciliation processes to maintain CMDB integrity.
  • Ensure CMDB supports broader IT and business architecture through cross-functional collaboration.

Support & Mentoring

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex platform issues (L3 support).
  • Mentor support teams and developers on best practices and platform capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge documentation and knowledge articles related to ServiceNow.

Governance & Best Practices

  • Define and enforce standards, architectural guidelines, and development processes.
  • Govern enhancements, favoring configuration changes over customizations.
  • Turn data into action by leveraging performance analytics to uncover trends, identify opportunities, and support data-driven decisions.
  • Automate manual processes and enable seamless integrations using REST, SOAP, XML, AJAX, and other technologies.
