The Director of Support (DCoS) serves as a senior leader within the Texas State Guard (TXSG), responsible for directing and coordinating key support functions, including logistics, procurement, budgeting, and personnel management. Performs advanced (senior-level) managerial and supervisory work, ensuring that TXSG support operations align with the strategic priorities of the Texas Military Department (TMD). The DCoS develops and implements policies, procedures, and resource management plans that sustain force readiness and organizational efficiency. The position supervises the work of others and reports to the TXSG Chief of Staff. Operates under minimal supervision, with significant latitude for independent judgment, initiative, and leadership.
Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
Provides direct oversight of support activities across TXSG headquarters, including logistics, purchasing, budgeting, and personnel. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with state regulations, fiscal accountability, and TMD directives. Advises the Chief of Staff and Commander, TXSG, on the condition and progress of support programs, budgets, and resourcing initiatives. Coordinates with subordinate units and staff sections to ensure proper resource allocation, supply chain management, and accountability of state property. Manages and recommends budget proposals, expenditures, and procurement requests; ensures compliance with purchasing policies and funding availability. Oversees TXSG personnel, including recruiting support functions in coordination with command-level recruiting teams; ensures recruitment goals align with force structure requirements. Develops workforce support goals and objectives consistent with the TXSG strategic plan. Prepares and reviews administrative reports, support plans, and budgetary studies related to TXSG operations. Provides continuity of operations for support programs, ensuring sustainability during leadership transitions. Represents the TXSG Chief of Staff in meetings, panels, and committees involving logistics, budgeting, and recruiting issues. Supervises assigned staff and ensures professional development, mentorship, and accountability. May develop and oversee implementation of long-range and short-term plans for TXSG support functions. May occasionally work evenings, weekends, or holidays as mission support requires. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies and procedures handbook. May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends. Performs related duties as assigned.
Conditions of Employment: Applicants must have and maintain active membership in the Texas State Guard as a condition of employment. Must be qualified for entry into or continued service in the TXSG in accordance with all applicable regulatory policies as required. Candidates must meet age, education, aptitude, physical, and character requirements for the TXSG. The State Military Specialist must wear the appropriate military duty uniform while engaged in their State service status. NOTE: If applicants are not currently members of the TXSG, they must be willing to join and become a member upon employment.
