Joint Use Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Joint Use Engineer with advanced O-Calc Pro expertise to support our pole loading analysis (PLA) and permitting operations. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of Outside Plant (OSP) fiber and copper plant design, with a strong command of GEO95, NESC (Grade B & C) standards, and the ability to determine structural make-ready. Fielding experience is highly desirable. This position demands technical acumen, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of aerial fiber infrastructure and joint-use coordination.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform pole loading analysis using O-Calc Pro, ensuring structural compliance and safety.
  • Analyze field data and existing conditions to determine make-ready actions including pole replacements, guying, or attachment relocations.
  • Interpret and apply NESC, GEO95, and both Grade B and Grade C structural standards.
  • QC aerial and underground telecom routes, including riser facilities, utility crossings, and ROW obstacles.
  • Collaborate with power utilities, CATV providers, and telecom companies to resolve joint-use conflicts.
  • Support permit preparation and submission across utility agencies and their sub-contractors using various portals and systems.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, safety practices, and project timelines.
  • Assist in drafting comments for permit applications and addressing revisions from utilities.
  • Attend and document meetings with utilities and project stakeholders.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the fiber-optic/telecom construction industry.
  • 1–3 years of OSP engineering experience, with proven field familiarity a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in O-Calc/pole loading analysis, Katapult and Ike.
  • Proficiency in CAD applications (MicroStation and/or AutoCAD).
  • Strong working knowledge of NESC, especially clearance and structural rules, as well as familiarity with GEO95 and application of Grade B/C standards for pole loading.
  • Proficient in interpreting pole data, photos, and engineering maps to support permit decisions.
  • Working knowledge of telecom tools such Varasset, FROGS, IQGeo, Katapult, Ike, and Sitetracker is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CAD and GIS platforms is advantageous.
  • Ability to identify telecom conflicts and present viable, cost-effective solutions.
  • Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Self-motivated and tech-savvy with a proactive attitude.
  • Requires passing a Background Check post offer.

Education:

  • Requires High school diploma or equivalent. A combination of education and applicable work experience may be acceptable.

Physical Requirements:

  • Alternate sitting and standing at will.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Requires viewing a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • May lift or carry small parcels, packages, and other items.
