The Front-End Design Engineer will work strategically across multiple projects, helping product teams refresh existing front ends, improve usability, and deliver consistent, high-quality UI solutions. Use of AI tools for productivity and efficiency is core to this role, from generating components to improving workflow speed and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Redesign and modernize the front-end interfaces across multiple applications, focusing on creating reusable UI components and design patterns.
  • Collaborate with product teams, designers, and backend developers to deliver cohesive and maintainable front-end solutions.
  • Use AI-assisted tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Replit, Figma AI, V0) to enhance productivity, accelerate prototyping, and maintain code quality.
  • Review and troubleshoot existing UIs to identify opportunities for improved usability, accessibility, and performance.
  • Ensure front ends are responsive, performant, and ready for integration with backend systems.
  • Contribute to and help evolve shared design systems and front-end best practices across teams.

  • 3+ years experience in front-end development and/or UI/UX design.
  • Expert in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Deep hands-on experience with at least one major front-end framework like React, Vue, or Angular.
  • Strong knowledge of responsive design, state management, API integration, and browser debugging tools.
  • Experience working with Figma or similar design tools.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and integrating front ends with backend services.
  • Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve development speed, quality, or workflow efficiency.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively across multiple teams and projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining or building shared design systems or component libraries.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience optimizing front-end performance and responsiveness.
  • Exposure to backend environments such as Java or Node.js.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Proven ability to refactor or migrate legacy front ends to modern architectures.
  • Experience with Linux, ANSI Common Lisp, and PostgreSQL is a plus.

Why Join WebCheckout

  • Opportunity to work across diverse products and technologies.
  • Key contributor in shaping the front-end direction of multiple solutions.
  • Collaborative, forward-thinking culture focused on quality and innovation.
  • Use AI tools daily to deliver faster, cleaner, and more consistent results.

*If you want to gain an edge over other candidates, include a brief cover letter with your application that describes: The different front-end systems, frameworks, or environments you've worked with — especially if you've balanced modern and legacy codebases.
