About This Role

Responsible for facilitating the optimal extraction of gold ore from the Mine Operations by providing strategic mine planning and scheduling expertise to achieve medium to long-term production and development targets. Support corporate feasibility study and technical due diligence efforts including preparation Underground mine designs, costs and schedules.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Practice and promote company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures and actively participate in the company's continuous improvement program.
  • Plan sequence of mining activities, develop mine plans and driving layouts, and monitor progress to ensure monthly forecast is achieved.
  • Contribute to the business capability to mine safety by actively identifying risks and threats to achieving targets and develop and manage safety programs to ensure mining risks are minimized or eliminated.
  • Evaluate mine design, sequencing, and schedules to optimize plans and deliver improvement opportunities.
  • Identify key engineering and mining success factors and issues that could impact the economic viability of mine plans and mine designs.
  • Prepare engineering studies aiding resource estimates for life of mine planning purposes.
  • Optimize stope shapes and delivery of stope note commentaries.
  • Complete mine designs, plans and schedules in a timely manner and ensure they are effectively communicated and implemented.
  • Evaluate alternative designs and mine plans based on various operational scenarios with the goal of maximizing productivity and revenue.
  • Develop plans and design that are safe, cost effective, and ensure maximum ore extraction using the ore.
  • Complete drill and blast designs effectively to achieve optimal fragmentation & drill efficiency.
  • Interpret the mining operational plan and production results to develop a monthly operation plan.
  • Participate in departmental short-term planning by contributing ideas on how to maximize the utilization of resources and increase value.
  • Execute QAQC of designs in the field.
  • Assist in gathering survey data of production drilling in the field and compare the plan to the real.
  • Ensure all projects are completed on time and within budgets.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly production planning meetings.
  • Ensure that all members of the mining teams have clear understanding and direction of project objectives by leading and controlling the coordination of regular planning meetings, ensuring deliverables are accurately recorded and distributed.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor or authorized delegate.

Education, work experience, and key competencies include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering or similar discipline or its equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' working experience in a mining environment in surface or underground operations.
  • Good working knowledge and experience in underground mine planning and design best practices.
  • Relevant experience in surface or underground drill and blast design best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of all phases of mining operations and proficiency in spreadsheet-based cash flow analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and conduct risk assessments.
  • Track record of implementing continuous improvement projects.
  • Proficient with mine planning software systems for stope optimization and designs, preferably Surpac, DataMine, EzyRings, Aegis, AutoCAD, knowledge of MS Office suites.
  • Experience with 3D modeling software.
  • Thorough understanding of mining operations, and solid safety performance at the personal and professional level.
  • Must have acquired blasting certificate from MINCOM.
  • Possess a valid Ghanaian driver's license with good and defensive driving skills.
