The primary focus of the Senior Water Engineer is to undertake design and consulting services for water resources and water supply infrastructure projects which include but not limited to water resources engineering, dam engineering, flood mitigation and management, river basin management, water quality, erosion and sedimentation, stormwater drainage, agricultural irrigation and drainage, coastal engineering, water distribution and supply projects. As part of the Civil, Water and Resources team, the role requires you to support in the delivery of civil infrastructure projects as well.
As a senior water engineer, you are expected to lead the delivery of key water projects as Project Manager, Civil and Water Technical Leader. Senior water engineers are also expected to support the water business leaders in developing and implementing strategic business plans, engage with internal and external stakeholders, put up proposals for water and civil engineering tenders in the country and in the region to enhance Arup's water sector portfolio. Senior water engineers are also required to manage and guide junior engineers in delivering their tasks to meet the projects requirements including quality standards, cost budget and project timelines. Senior water engineer shall demonstrate good leadership and management skills and establish a collaborative relationship among team members and external stakeholders to deliver the project objectives and targets.
Key Responsibilities: • You will work with minimal supervision, referring up as necessary. In achieving this you will be responsible for meeting deadlines, monitoring budgets and resourcing and controlling expenditure to meet financial targets in your own area • You will represent Arup at internal and external events, and you may be responsible for designing and delivering events, activities and projects which impact the business • You will be responsible for your own performance and assist in the development of others through providing guidance, training, direction and feedback • You will design across project lifecycle from Master Plan and Feasibility Stages through Concept, Preliminary and Detailed Design and provide support to projects in construction • Typically, your projects may involve, Stormwater Drainage and Water Sensitive Urban Design, Flood Mitigation and Management, Integrated Water and River Basin Management, Water Resources Management, Water Demand Management, Water Quality and River Rehabilitation Works, Dam Engineering and Management, Erosion and Sedimentation, Agricultural Irrigation and Drainage, Hydrology and Hydraulics, Advection-Dispersion Modelling, Water Treatment and Supply, Coastal Engineering, Wastewater Treatment and Conveyance, utility design and coordination amongst others • You will be responsible for the development, design and management of large, complex, long-term projects. This will involve coordinating people, facilities, resources etc, within tight timelines and in line with budgetary constraints (includes reviewing technical standards to ensure that design techniques, reference material and software tools are up-to-date and are correctly applied); • Your work will involve in the leadership of small and medium sized projects, as well as being a key member of larger project groups. This will include design, technical documentation, input to cost estimates, tender submissions, project scheduling and meeting deadlines and budgets. You will work on a variety of Infrastructure and Industrial projects • You will be expected to support the growth of the Energy Water and Resources Infrastructure Capability in Malaysia • You will contribute to the development and implementation of business plan of Arup for the water and civil infrastructure sector • You will be responsible for executing responsibilities as outlined in Arup's Quality Management System
Qualification and Experiences: • Recognised relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering. • Relevant industry experience in Civil Engineering with an experience in Water Resources Management and Integrated Water Management works is preferable • Emphasis on design experience for Flood Mitigation and Management, stormwater drainage design, WSUD and Utilities design within a consulting business environment. • Knowledge and experience of Major Infrastructure Projects including major urban developments, major water resource and supply developments, coastal and maritime, rail and aviation projects is beneficial. • A minimum of 8 years' experience delivering projects covering a range of masterplans and feasibility studies, pre-concept design to site phase for a range of clients including Local Government Authorities and/or Private Developers. • Experience in the operation of software modelling and design tools such as DHI MIKE 11, MIKE 21, MIKE Hydro River, MIKE Plus, MIKE SHE, Infoworks ICM, Infoworks WS, EPANET, Water Gems, AutoCAD or similar. In addition, experience using Geographical Information System (GIS) such as ArcGIS, QGIS, Global Mapper or similar and Building Information Modelling (BIM) packages such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks, Navisworks, Autodesk Recap, Bentley Systems, etc would be an advantage • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership. • Proven working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and guidelines – and related procedures including OH&S.
