Project Engineer Job

Under the general supervision of the Reliability Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for providing mechanical engineering support relating to the manufacturing equipment and processes. This includes providing daily technical support for the Value Streams, identifying and executing process improvement and cost reduction opportunities, and the designing and installation of capital projects. Projects are generally moderate to significant in both scope and technical complexity.

What does a Project Engineer do?

  • Provides technical assistance on a proactive basis.
  • Actively participating as a Value Stream Team member to drive resolution of common cause and special cause issues that negatively impact Plant Reliability.
  • Investigate problems in operations and recommending corrective action. This includes consulting with production personnel, analyzing the supporting data, recommending corrective action, and following through on recommendations to evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Owns certain critical equipment, systems, and processes within the Plant.
  • Serves as the plant contact for AWI Capital Project teams assigned to the Pensacola Plant to represent the needs of the plant to AWI Capital and communicating critical issues needing resolution back to the Plant.
  • Executes capital projects per agreed cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Applies Precision Maintenance concepts and principles to all work performed in the plant.
  • Transfers technical knowledge where appropriate to other plant personnel to elevate organization understanding and performance.

Value Added Activities (% Time Spent)

  • 25% Owner of Critical Equipment, Systems, and Processes
  • 25% Supporting Plant Productivity and Objectives
  • 50% Execution of Capital Projects

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage contractors and technicians performing work on your individual projects

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering from ABET Accredited College or University
  • 5-7 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects of up to $500,000
  • Hands-on experience with industrial dust collection and combustion systems
  • AutoCAD/Inventor skills
  • SAP knowledge
