The Computer Support Technician is responsible for delivering efficient and effective technical support to end-users via telephone, email, chat, and remote assistance. This position plays a crucial role in resolving IT issues, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring the smooth operation of computer systems and networks. The IT Support Technician will provide timely solutions and exceptional customer service to ensure end-users can work productively.
Provide telephone and remote support to end-users, assisting with technical issues, software, hardware, and network problems.
Diagnose and resolve technical problems through effective troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
Document support requests, issue resolutions, and user interactions in a helpdesk ticketing system.
Escalate complex technical issues to higher-level IT personnel as needed and follow up on the resolution.
Install, configure, and update software applications, operating systems, and hardware components remotely.
Offer guidance and training to end-users for IT-related tasks, ensuring their proficiency in utilizing technology.
Assist in maintaining and monitoring IT assets, including computers, printers, and network devices.
Collaborate with other IT support staff to provide a seamless support experience to end-users.
Stay up-to-date with technological advancements and best practices in the IT field to enhance support services.
Strong knowledge of common operating systems, including Windows and macOS.
Familiarity with hardware components, peripheral devices, and computer networks.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication and customer service skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in remote desktop tools and helpdesk ticketing systems.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.
Patience and the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Adaptability to a rapidly changing IT environment.
Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Basic knowledge of computer systems, hardware, and software.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST).
Prior experience in a telephone or remote support role.
Knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) best practices.
Familiarity with IT security practices and protocols.
An ability to sit or stand for long periods.
Ability to successfully manipulate devices for data entry during those periods. Ability to view computer screens for long periods.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in non-verbal communication.
Ability to arrive at work on time, if not early, and stay late as the situation dictates. Off-hour work may be required.
The actual work location may be physically on campus in an office environment, possibly shared or at an approved remote location.
Must be able to be contacted as needed and respond accordingly.
Ensure the ability to travel as necessary by driving, riding, flying, or other public transportation systems, both in and out of the State.
