Administrative Support Specialist

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service position. This National Guard position is for an Administrative Support Specialist (Title 32), Position Description Number D2346000 and is part of the AR ANG 189 MSQ FT, National Guard. National Guard membership is required. If you are not currently a member of any military service (Branch/Status), please provide a letter stating intent to join. Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as the Commander's Resource Advisor, assuring full planning, execution, and accountability for the Unit's financial and workday resources.
  • Maintaining proficiency in the use of numerous systems and familiarity with a large body of legal and regulatory material particular to the financial management realm.
  • Preparing a wide variety of financial reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis in order to document financial accountability, inform management decision-making, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Serving as the lead for all unit administrative support functions.
  • Planning, implementing, and managing the Records Management Program for the Unit according to Air Force directives, instructions, and general guidance from Higher Headquarters.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

  • National Guard membership is required.
  • Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state’s National Guard.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Important notes include: Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment.

Qualifications include:

  • General experience involving supervising or performing work requiring knowledge of the basic processes of administration, the principles and standard practices of management, and the techniques of organization, direction, coordination, and control.
  • Specialized experience of 1 year specialized experience, education or training equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Experience providing technical guidance and assistance in the type of work or in comparable work of the position to be filled.

Additional information includes:

  • If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act, the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Must be able to obtain/maintain appropriate security clearance.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Irregular and/or overtime compensatory hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. May require travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle; if so, an appropriate valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • This is a National Guard dual status technician position which requires military membership. Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
