This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View, you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
As Technical Fellow in the Vehicle Services Infrastructure organization, you will serve as a senior architect across the entire engineering stack related to vehicle communication and the connected back-end services powering features in all GM consumer vehicles globally. While this is an individual contributor role, it carries significant leadership responsibility, focusing on defining the long-term technology strategy to improve vehicle connectivity performance, reliability, and responsiveness.
You will influence cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders, providing technical vision and direction for highly complex, multi-year initiatives. This role demands not only deep technical knowledge but also the ability to lead without direct authority-mentoring engineers, aligning competing priorities, and guiding architectural decisions across multiple organizations.
- Define strategic technical direction for vehicle connectivity and supporting backend services
- Serve as a senior architect across the full software stack, influencing major multi-year projects
- Lead cross-functional architecture reviews and technology planning sessions
- Mentor and guide engineers and architects across multiple organizations
- Influence executive decision-making through well-articulated proposals and vision
- Partner with third-party vendors and internal teams to drive secure and scalable design solutions
- Deliver robust, fault-tolerant, and high-performance network and communication systems
- Ensure successful delivery of large-scale software initiatives from concept through execution
- 15+ years of experience in software development
- At least 5 years in a technical leadership or architecture role
- Proven experience delivering large-scale, complex initiatives across multi-functional teams
- Expertise in full-stack development and back-end system design
- Strong background in vehicle connectivity or similar distributed systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead and mentor diverse engineering teams
- Demonstrated success influencing executive-level stakeholders
- Experience with robust and fault-tolerant networking and communication protocols
- Knowledge of secure connectivity solutions between devices
- Experience optimizing web services for user-facing performance
- Familiarity with negotiating technical direction and integration with third-party vendors
- Prior experience leading initiatives that span multiple Director-level organizations
- Background in automotive or embedded systems is a plus

+ The salary range for this role is $219,000 to $396,700. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
