Project Engineer
This position requires travel 85% - 90% of the time throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. We are a fast-paced, growing construction company that delivers safety, quality, and on-time work, specializing in heavy civil construction that includes earthwork, concrete work, steel erection and more. The ideal person will be highly organized, self-motivated, have a working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawing and specifications, building materials and required standards applicable to assigned projects. The project engineer is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and managing onsite construction engineering activities; while providing leadership and expertise to ensure all work complies with project standards. Facilitates results through management and support of construction best practices and policies in order to effectively manage Spencer Construction resources and project outcomes.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage project controls to ensure compliance with contract, budget, schedule, forecasting and job costing.
- Manage the development, updating, and maintenance of project schedule to ensure work is completed on time and under budget.
- Participate in monthly forecasting revenue and costs accruals.
- Accumulate all necessary data and prepare monthly pay estimates.
- Coordinate and schedule shop drawings and submittals.
- Manage and negotiate subcontractor and material contracts.
- Assist with representing the company or project during client and project management meetings to ensure effective communication.
- Work closely with field construction personnel (Superintendents, Foremen and Crews) in a collaborative manner.
- Any and all other duties assigned.

- Research, organization, and planning of assigned projects.
- Ability to work on our different sites in various states.
- Work closely with leadership to maintain efficient tracking/monitoring of projects.
- Comply, understand, and support Spencer Construction safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.

- Valid driver's license and ability to drive.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Must have at least 1 years' experience in construction engineering, field support, or similar position.
- Must have an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration (Accounting, Management or Finance), Construction Management or related field, or equivalent job experience.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and external clients and/or contractors.
- Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and construction specific software.
- Experience working on multiple projects at once and managing time appropriately.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of construction engineering technology, codes, standards, and an in-depth understanding of the interdependence and relationship between other functional units.
- Experience with managing multiple projects with conflicting priorities.
- Experience budgeting projects and managing costs.
