Electrical Engineer, Sr.

University Facility Services is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer. This position provides electrical engineering expertise and technical support. Efficiently and cost effectively develops, manages, and coordinates design and/or construction projects consistent with the mission and goals of University Facility Services.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review project documentation and perform field reviews to ensure project requirements, quality of electrical engineering design, compliance with University Design and Specification Standards and appropriate codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with consultants and other design team members.
  • Designs and prepare drawings for electrical systems for building projects including conducting code review, lighting calculations, lighting and receptacle layout, one-line diagrams, branch circuit, feeder, and service calculations, fault current calculations, etc.
  • Writes and edits electrical system specifications for building projects.
  • Coordinates and participates in commissioning activities, acceptance testing, and reliability acceptance testing and actively troubleshoots issues as they arise.
  • Participates in the development of requests for proposals, scopes of work, reviewing proposals, and selecting consulting engineers.
  • Ensures established University of Arizona standards, policies, and procedures, and engineering best practices are consistently applied throughout assigned projects.
  • Serve as project representative and provide appropriate opportunities to facilitate input from project delivery team and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with facility users to develop project scope and discuss design, associated budget, and schedule requirements that meet their needs and are accordance with Arizona Board of Regents policies and guidelines.
  • Reviews the consultant's designs for compliance with the scope of work, engineering standards, codes, industry standards, design quality expectations, and stakeholder needs.
  • Initiate, evaluate and recommend energy conservation measures and investigate new sustainable technologies for implementation into projects.
  • Performing complex power system studies (short circuit, coordination, and arc flash) for engineering and maintenance projects to determine how the modifications affect the electrical systems and plan for future growth.
  • Performs engineering calculations and analysis for projects and equipment replacement.
  • Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and explains various regulations and policies related to the area of assignment; tracks new legislative and regulatory developments; develops and implements a variety of documents, policies, and procedures.
  • Stays abreast of new trends and innovations; and researching emerging products and enhancements and their applicability to University of Arizona's needs.
  • Develop recommendations for project problems and issues.
  • Prepares punch lists and project observations reports to note findings.
  • Prepares Supplemental Instructions (SI's) and Responds to Requests for Information (RFI's).
  • Prepare complex engineering plan clarifications and changes in response to contractors' requests for information.
  • Reviews project submittal documents and approvals or rejects based upon compliance with project drawings and specifications.
  • Manages small electrical design projects.
  • Provides technical leadership and expertise in design, commissioning and construction projects.
  • Prepares electrical single line diagrams, plan drawings, details, control schematics, lighting calculations, cable and conduit schedules, load calculations and technical specifications for design projects, coordinates designs with operations and maintenance.
  • Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects as needed.
