This position is posted for Flagstaff, AZ; however, alternate northern Arizona locations may be considered depending on the qualifications and skills of the candidate. Primary Purpose: Monitors and evaluates rotating and reciprocating equipment (2 & 4 cycle internal combustion engines, compressors, fans, pumps, turbines and centrifugal compressors etc.) utilizing specialized electronic analyzing equipment. Examines, analyzes, troubleshoots, and diagnoses equipment for defects in operation. On occasion the Engineering Technician will assist Mechanical Maintenance with troubleshooting and repairs. The Engineering Technician frequently works with Environmental Representatives in scheduling and completing emissions testing. Monitors emission levels and keeps engines and turbines running in compliance with permitted emissions levels. Maintains accurate records of all engine/compressor analysis and emission testing. Calibrates and maintains analytical equipment.
Education: Associates degree in a technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience and Knowledge: Minimum of 5 years of experience with reciprocating and rotating machinery repair and / or machinery diagnostics. Possess a thorough understanding of the mechanical aspects of internal combustion engines and gas compression equipment and their support systems. Experience with reciprocating engine condition monitoring systems such as Windrock 6300's or Recip-Trap. Thorough knowledge of condition-monitoring and condition-based-maintenance techniques. Demonstrated ability to investigate and troubleshoot vibration problems, with an understanding of spectral analysis. Demonstrated experience in using electronic databases as well as storage and archival of electronic data. Strong understanding of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint computer programs along with proprietary analyzer software. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience with portable-unit exhaust emissions analysis. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize assignments according to business needs. Excellent written and oral communications skills – proven ability to produce clear, concise written reports, and discuss and review, and present technical information. Excellent team working skills – demonstrated ability to work with operations groups, support groups, and engineering support staff.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
Demonstrated customer focus in dealing with engineering, field operations, and other internal and external groups. Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with a minimum of supervision. Must be comfortable working with remote supervision. Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize and adhere to established work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules. Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
Must be able to withstand extreme conditions; will work outdoors in all seasons. Must be able to frequently: enter confined spaces; and climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways. Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds in awkward positions, and 50 pounds from floor to waist.
Required to carry a company-provided cell phone/pager, and be available to respond during working hours, and non-working hours as needed. Travel is required and anticipated as up to 40-50% on average and may occasionally include out-of-town nights and weekend travel.
