You will conceptualize, design, integrate, and document mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure successful hardware performance. Application of design for manufacturing and assembly best practices will be a critical skill set to be successful in this position. This role may also include leading teams in the completion of above tasks. Perform work in proprietary spaces may be required based on program assignment. Some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.
Work with engineers across the business to propose, design, develop, integrate, and document complex detailed designs and large assemblies within the mechanical design department. Communicate with engineering team members and suppliers to design, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements to peers, leadership (ERB/CCB), and customers. Work under limited supervision and act as the responsible design authority.
Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience. 5 years of experience in mechanical design drafting and development preferably of defense-related components or systems or aerospace. Experience with any Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analyses, drawing practices and interpretation (ASME Y-14.5) for mechanical hardware. Experience with military, or aerospace specifications and/or industry design standards. Experience in Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience in Creo Parametric and/or ProE and/or Windchill/Common PDM.
8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test, preferably of defense-related components or systems. Experience in airframe development, electronics packaging, mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications. Experience with manufacturing techniques and/or assembly best practices. Demonstrated collaboration with cross-disciplined teams, using trust, respect, and innovation to drive results towards a shared vision. Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others to document design actions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program management and customers through presentations and reports. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, data sorting/plotting, and technical documentation.
