As an Oncology Patient Services Navigator, you will play a vital role in guiding patients and their families through the complex healthcare journey with compassion and clarity. You'll be responsible for coordinating the administrative aspects of care, including conducting patient needs assessments, verifying insurance, managing documentation, and scheduling appointments. Working closely with the clinical care team, you'll help ensure timely diagnoses and treatments that lead to better outcomes and a more seamless experience. Your support will also extend to identifying potential barriers to care and connecting patients with the resources they need to maintain their health and well-being throughout their treatment journey.

Schedule: Monday - Friday between 8am-6:30pm

The Phoenix campus, long known for excellent patient care, has over 730 licensed beds, several unique specialty units and is the new home for medical discoveries, thanks to our collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix. Additionally, the campus responsibilities include fully integrated multi-specialty and sub-specialty clinics.

POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for providing personalized coordination, clarification, and communication of administrative aspects of care including patient needs assessments, insurance verification, maintaining and handling of documentation, and scheduling of appointments. This position partners with the clinical care team to ensure a timely diagnosis and treatment to optimize patient outcomes and ensure seamless experience for the patient and their family. This position assists with providing resources to help the patient maintain optimal care by identifying barriers and assisting with additional resource support.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Collaborates with clinical team in providing adequate resources to patients with identified barriers to reduce or remove barriers.
  2. Gathers and completes necessary data/documentation requirements and escalates for problem resolution.
  3. Utilizes Banner's phone system to communicate to patients or external providers professionally and effectively. Maintains the highest standard of quality calls following HIPAA policies for patient privacy.
  4. Reviews medical records and/or test results to determine appropriate next steps in coordination of care or scheduling.
  5. Coordinates with physicians and providers to optimize patient outcomes and collaborates with the patient and referring physician to solicit information needed to determine appropriate physician alignment for consultation.
  6. Manages multiple appointments, utilizing the scheduling systems to ensure thorough communication across the multiple disciplines.
  7. Works independently to determine how to best accomplish functions within established procedures and makes decisions related to patient care coordination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Medical terminology, Medical Assistant Training, Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant Training. Two years of health care experience required. Requires excellent time management and problem-solving skills, ability to meet constantly shifting deadlines and timelines and excellent customer service and recovery skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Working towards obtaining a Patient Navigation Certification. Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
