Supervisor of Substation Engineering - Transmission T&D

The Supervisor of Substation Transmission Engineering leads a team of engineers and technical staff responsible for the design, analysis, and support of high-voltage substation projects, large generator interconnection projects, and major customer projects across the APS transmission system. This role ensures engineering deliverables meet safety, reliability, regulatory, and operational standards while aligning with company goals and project timelines. The supervisor also establishes priorities for team members, ensuring efficient resource allocation and timely execution of engineering tasks.

Approved Engineering degrees include Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, and Structural. A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by the Engineering Career Path Review Board to determine equivalency level. Preferred special skills, knowledge, or qualification include Professional Engineer registration, demonstrated supervisory experience and ability, working knowledge of substation and transmission systems including relay protection, SCADA systems, control houses, and high-voltage equipment, experience managing capital projects, coordinating contractors, reviewing design drawings/specs, and resolving RFIs and change orders, and strong process improvement and business focus. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet is required.

Major accountabilities include overseeing a team of engineers and technical administrators responsible for the design, review, and approval of substation engineering plans; collaborating with multiple business units across T&D managing a diverse team consisting of electrical design engineers, civil design engineers, and apparatus engineers; providing electrical and civil engineering resource allocations for capital and maintenance projects; developing department budget and managing department expenditures within approved limits; fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement; leading efforts to standardize substation engineering practices and design templates; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of new and changing processes, technologies or regulations that may impact the work of the team; providing technical guidance and support to ensure the highest quality project is produced; effectively interfacing with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are achieved and costs contained within budget.
