Touch HW EE Validation Engineer

The Touch Technology team develops innovative Touch solutions and technologies that are central to Apple's products, including the iPhones, iPads, AppleWatch, and more. An engineer in this role develops strategies and solutions that ensures that Apple products meet the exacting touch performance standards in terms of hardware and user experience.

Responsibilities

The role involves development and execution of validation and characterization methodologies for Apple's touch solutions, from proof-of-concept to mass production.

  • Defining and architecting solutions to solve complex open ended test and validation problems
  • Developing and proving analytical models to understand test system interaction with Touch sensors
  • Driving strategies with multi-functional teams, including test, Algorithm, firmware, software, mechanical design and reliability Engineering to decode open ended test and validation problems into an executable plan and deliverable
  • Designing metrics and figures-of-merit to guide touch design and performance tracking
  • Leading the development and execution of engineering validation and characterization methodologies for Apple's touch solutions across different products
  • Architecting and designing HW & SW infrastructure for innovative test solutions
  • Managing vendors to implement validation tools, plans and infrastructure
  • Performing failure mode analysis with advanced detailed analysis tools to drive root cause diagnosis
  • Authoring reports and communications pertaining to key concepts, results and checkpoints
  • Business travel (up to 20% domestic and international travel) to support product development is required

Minimum Qualifications

The role includes:

  • Strong electrical engineering background in analog/mixed-signal testing methodologies or prior industry experience in owning validation/test efforts on products
  • Minimum requirement of a bachelors degree

Preferred Qualifications

The role also prefers:

  • Multi disciplinary understanding of EE, ME and Physics principles
  • High proficiency in software and algorithm prototyping/analysis using scripting languages like Matlab/Python
  • Willingness to wear multiple hats, go beyond normal Roles and Responsibilities to dive deep in to an issue including ability to breakdown an existing Algorithm to enhance understanding
  • Experience in HW prototyping, Design of Experiments (DoE), FA/CA (Failure Analysis / Corrective Action)
  • Proficient in data visualization and statistical analysis tools such as Tableau, SpotFire, JMP, Python or Matlab or similar
  • Excellent project management skills, written/verbal communication skills and solid people skills
  • Experience with touch technology
  • MS with relevant industry experience
