Join the Apple Beats team as a Tooling Engineer and lead the development of enclosures across the full range of Beats audio and accessory products. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the successful delivery of enclosures-from concept and NPI development through to mass production ramp-directly supporting key product launches. Lead the end-to-end development and lifecycle management of cutting-edge plastic injection tooling, from initial concept and DFM through to mass production. Collaborate closely with Product Design (PD) and Industrial Design (ID) teams to define requirements and ensure manufacturability, while managing suppliers to design, fabricate, and qualify world-class tools. Drive tool and secondary process design, locking in critical parameters and resolving complex DFM and post-production challenges to ensure product quality and performance. Partner with cross-functional teams (PD, GSM, EPM, TPM) also manage/drive supplier to support product trial builds and aggressive production ramp-up schedules, ensuring seamless project execution from concept to launch.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the tooling DFM, design, manufacturing and molding performance (trial run) of all tooling to support the development of new products.
  • Work with Mechanical Engineers, Program management team and GSM to identify supply base vendors, fabrication technologies and create tooling designs to deliver high volume, high value consumer products with demanding cosmetic requirements.
  • Investigate and implement industry best practices in tool design, construction and validation across a range of material and process requirements including plastic molding, metal part fabrication and decorative processes to deliver new product designs.
  • Review tooling DFM and give the recommendation for product design to achieve its functionality, cosmetic and manufacturing feasibility. Timely communicated with crossing team to update the latest tooling /parts design statues.
  • Monitor tooling fabrication and trial run progress on site, make sure the delivery was following assembly building and ramp schedule and quality requirement.
  • Lead the Troubleshoot for all tooling related issue such as part's dimension & cosmetic problem and tooling functionality bugs, validate the correct action with following tooling modification and trail run.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years related work experience in injection tooling design, fabrication and qualification required in high volume consumer electronic products.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD software, including Pro/Engineer or NX (UG).
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of tooling processes and molding, including new technology of the tooling and injection molding, new plastic material and its applications.
  • Experienced in working with supplier plants to manage tooling fabrication, modification and trail run. Could accept the short notice for travel, and work /stay on the supplier site till problem solved.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cable, metal (die casting, extrusion, stamping) and silicone parts' manufacturing process.
  • A good understanding of and experience with plastic finishing such as paint, Ultrasonic welding…etc., The secondary process for surface treatment.
  • Supplier management capability, Influence / encourage crossing X-team work forward the same object.
  • Familiarity with online project management collaboration tools, bug tracking software, etc.
