The Wallet Services organization is seeking a technically strong, collaborative, and resilient Engineering Manager to lead the next generation of Wallet experiences. Our mission is to enable seamless and secure digital access everywhere, empowering users to unlock doors, access buildings, vehicles, and experiences with their iPhone or Apple Watch.

As an Engineering Manager on the Access Platform team, you will lead the development of innovative digital access solutions within Apple Wallet. You will be responsible for guiding a team of dedicated engineers, driving technical excellence, and shaping the future of how users seamlessly and securely interact with the world around them. We're looking for an engineering leader who is passionate, leads with ownership and integrity, and inspires that same approach within their team. This candidate can influence critical partners, drive multi-functional alignment, and represent Wallet Services in cross-functional and executive forums. This leader will champion Wallet's evolution toward a DevOps culture, owning the operational health of the services they build, balancing innovation with reliability, and learning from every issue to continuously improve. They will also foster innovation through AI, guiding the team to explore intelligent tooling, automation, and AI-driven improvements that enhance developer productivity and elevate the end-user experience.

Responsibilities

Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation.

Drive the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, reliable, and secure backend services for the Access Platform.

Collaborate with product managers, business development, iOS developers, QE, and other collaborators to define product requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Champion DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring, to ensure high availability and operational efficiency.

Drive innovation through AI, empowering engineers to apply AI/ML to internal tooling, developer workflows, and emerging product capabilities.

Represent the Access Platform team in cross-functional forums, communicating technical roadmaps, progress updates, and key decisions.

Advance Wallet Services modernization, improving reliability, observability, developer velocity, and operational excellence through a sustained DevOps transformation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

10+ years of hands on software engineering experience in backend server development.

5+ years of experience in a technical leadership or engineering management role.

Solid understanding of cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and service-oriented design.

Experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.

Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability frameworks, and automated deployment systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience building and maintaining large-scale, highly reliable backend services powering consumer products.

Experience with integrating or leveraging AI and automation frameworks for developer tools or service optimization.

Ability to influence without authority, align diverse teams, and drive clarity across complex, multi-functional initiatives.

Experience working on mobile consumer applications that span both server and device side.
