The Identity Management Services (IdMS) team is a high-impact engineering group behind the core systems that power Apple Account identity across all of Apple's platforms from iCloud, the App Store, and Apple Music to Apple Pay, FaceTime, and the Online Store. We design and build scalable, secure infrastructure that supports billions of user interactions every day. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable services for identity management, including authentication, adaptive MFA and user lifecycle systems
  • Build and maintain high-performance APIs using REST and RPC with strong contract enforcement
  • Lead design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions for distributed systems
  • Drive shift-left testing strategy, ensuring integration and contract testing are embedded in development workflows
  • Integrate ML/Generative AI capabilities into identity workflows (adaptive authentication, anomalies detection)
  • Drive best practices in API design, backward compatibility, and schema evolution
  • Improve system observability through logging, metrics, and tracing
  • Improve system reliability, latency, and scalability through deep technical contributions
  • Partner with QE and platform teams to evolve testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in software development, with significant experience in design and development of large-scale distributed systems
  • Strong Proficiency in Java, Spring, multi-threading, non-Blocking, data caching services, and data access technologies, coupled with hands-on development experience.
  • Experience in designing and implementing high-performant REST / RPC services.
  • Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding authentication and authorization protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, FIDO2/WebAuthn)
  • Proven track records in designing, leading and shipping mission-critical IAM Platforms and services in Java that runs at a global scale.
  • Experience with Generative AI technologies (e.g., LLMs, prompt engineering,, or AI-assisted developer tools)
  • Experience product-ionizing ML systems (model serving, feature pipelines, monitoring, drift detection)
  • Strong experience with integration testing, contract testing, and shift-left quality practices
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containers, and large-scale infrastructure

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $212,000 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
