Apple Data Platform (ADP) serves as a foundational building block for Apple's Services, Software, and AI/ML ecosystem, providing advanced data governance, compliance, and scalable data management. It delivers a comprehensive suite of capabilities, including batch and real-time data processing, embeddings management, feature stores, lakehouse architecture, data virtualization, and inference-as-a-service. These technologies empower analytics and AI workflows across Apple's ecosystem, enabling seamless integration and innovation across products and services. Leveraging open-source technologies such as Ray, Spark, Flink, and Iceberg across multi-cloud and on-premises environments, the Apple Data Platform powers data-driven intelligence that continuously enhances the customer experience. We are seeking a Senior Engineering Leader with a passion for delivering scalable, secure, and user-friendly infrastructure to power Apple's Data and AI platforms.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineering Leader, you will lead teams responsible for designing, building, and operating a scalable, efficient, and reliable Data and AI Infrastructure Platform across public clouds and Apple data centers. This role will also own and drive key initiatives in cost efficiency, business and system observability, cost attribution, and capacity management.

  • Drive the overall strategy, design, and execution of the ADP Data and AI Infrastructure Platform.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and partner teams to deliver integrations, ensure compliance, optimize cost efficiency, and enhance user experience.
  • Partner with internal product and customer teams to shape the platform roadmap and accelerate platform adoption across Apple.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams, providing guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Identify opportunities to contribute strategically to open-source communities and represent Apple's leadership in data and AI infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 12+ years of software development experience in Data and/or AI platform infrastructure, with a proven track record of building and operationalizing solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, and on-premises environments.
  • 10+ years of engineering management experience, including leading, mentoring, and scaling high-performing technical teams.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems and cloud-native infrastructure, including Kubernetes, serverless computing, and container orchestration.
  • Demonstrated success driving data/AI infrastructure cost efficiency through observability, attribution, and collaboration with service, customer, and SRE teams.
  • Strong leadership in cross-functional collaboration, driving alignment across engineering, product, and business teams to accelerate adoption and execution.
  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in AI/ML workload orchestration and scheduling, with a focus on optimizing resource allocation for large-scale training, inference, and data processing pipelines. Experience leveraging GenAI agents and tools to optimize infrastructure deployment, automate efficiency initiatives, and enhance developer and operational productivity.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $198,300 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
