Metal GPU Driver Engineer

Apple's GPU Software team enables developers to harness the power of the GPU across all of Apple's innovative products. Join the team that made the groundbreaking graphics performance of the Apple M1 processor possible! You'll collaborate with engineers across Apple to build tools and APIs to enable cutting edge graphics, machine learning, and compute applications on Apple Silicon devices.

The Apple Silicon GPU Driver team needs engineers to prototype, develop, and support best on our platform ML based rendering algorithms to drive future GPU HW and SW roadmaps. This engineer will design and implement new MetalFX techniques, tune MetalFX support for new SOCs and platforms, and develop the Apple Silicon GPU driver to support realtime ML workloads. We collaborate with industry specialists across Apple to design future generations of the Metal API, shading language, and Apple Silicon GPUs. You will apply your knowledge of computer graphics, operating systems and machine learning to implement the high performance software that drives Apple-designed GPUs. You will build expert-level knowledge to guide developers to tune their workloads for maximum performance and scalability on Apple's platforms.

Responsibilities include:

  • Understand the graphics pipeline
  • Carry forward highly complex software debug efforts
  • You are results-oriented, upbeat and focused with a strong passion to learn and succeed

Minimum qualifications include:

  • GPU programming with Metal, DirectX, Vulkan, CUDA, Direct Compute, OpenGL, or OpenCL Programming knowledge of C/C++ and Python
  • Knowledge of realtime graphics/image processing algorithms and machine learning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely across multiple audiences to explain experimental outcomes and technical roadblocks
  • Technical BS/MS degree

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with machine learning authoring frameworks such as PyTorch is a plus.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
