We conduct mixed-methods user research and creating actionable insights that guide the design and development of Apple products. The role requires working at the intersection of many disciplines, on a variety of projects and with multiple partners. Curiosity to delve into new domains, the ability to learn from cross-functional, often highly technical partners and quick thinking are key. Ideal candidates are passionate user advocates, with the ability to anticipate, study and observe user interactions. They are technical and competent at setting up, operating and analyzing outputs of quantitative data capture systems, such as Motion Capture. They are also able to intuitively relate to a user's subjective experience and sentiment.
The Human Engineering Human Factors team works closely with many teams around the company to conduct human centered research and create actionable insights to inform product decisions. Responsibilities include: Applying Human Factors Engineering (HFE) techniques and principles at all phases of product/technology development Exercising independent judgment in the development of study methodology, data collection efforts, data analysis, conclusions, and design recommendations Developing user study criteria and detailed methodology for widely varied projects, spanning from formative to evaluative, and qualitative to quantitative Conducting user-centered research and evaluation on a diverse user population utilizing experimental data and scientific publications Conducting statistical and qualitative analyses of data and providing clear and concise feedback to teams in a timely manner Collaborating cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product development groups. Maintaining an active working knowledge of worldwide human factors publications and standards
Expertise in creating thorough experimental designs, utilizing scientific methods Mixed methods expertise to combine quantitative and qualitative research approaches Relevant, proven experience in human factors and/or consumer product usability evaluation Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, patience, and aesthetic sensibility Expertise with the optimization and operation of Motion Capture Systems, as well as the ability to track rigid bodies and process 3D position/orientation data Master's degree required (doctorate preferred) with a concentration or extensive work in human factors, industrial engineering, cognitive engineering, human-computer interaction, or experimental psychology.
Ability to customize data collection tools, as well as manipulate, analyze and visualize outputs Experience with scripting/programming for data manipulation and research applications (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) Expertise in interview techniques related to product use Experience in cognitive engineering (work/task analysis, information processing) 2+ years industry experience in Human Factors or User Experience Research Experience with human factors engagement through various stages of the product life cycle, including foundational, formative, and evaluative stages Experience leveraging AI tools to support research workflows, including study design, analysis, and insights synthesis
