Description

As a Cellular Modem Firmware Engineering Program Manager, you will be at the heart of our ground-breaking cellular baseband modems to meet performance, quality and schedule requirements for Apple products. This role demands excellent interpersonal skills to work multi-functionally within a dynamic engineering environment. Partnering with engineers and managers from our hardware and software engineering teams, will be key to your success in this role. You will deliver executive communication and presentations to support the decision-making process, clearly and effectively communicate overall program status, while identifying and resolving key bottlenecks and interdependencies of sophisticated projects. Ideally, you will also have validated project management experience in some aspect of firmware development, integration and pre / post-silicon Cellular verification, and Cellular features. This position owns program management for cellular modem firmware development, with a focus on Layer 1/PHY and production testing components. The role manages the complete firmware development lifecycle from design through production ramp, ensuring execution targets are met while coordinating cross-functional dependencies. The successful candidate will drive technical specification closure with engineering partners, and provide executive-level project communications.

Responsibilities

Own program management of firmware development for cellular modems and meet execution targets, covering Layer 1/PHY and production testing aspects.

Track project schedules for firmware work across all development phases: design, implementation, pre-silicon verification, modem bring-up, validation, integration, field test, interoperability testing, and production ramp.

Drive closure of firmware functional design specifications with cellular modem engineering partners, monitor requirements compliance and firmware quality, and handle issue resolution.

Coordinate with multi-functional teams and organizations to enable progress on dependencies for firmware design, implementation, and verification.

Anticipate project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and facilitate conflict resolution.

Provide regular project status presentations for executive reviews, distilling complex technical data into clear communications for partners and stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Minimum Qualifications

BS and 10+ years relevant industry experience.

Proven ability with a track record of hands-on engineering management / leadership or program / project management in the FW/SW domain.

Experience working in the development of wireless baseband modem systems, algorithms, hardware and/or firmware.

Preferred Qualifications

Good understanding about the Development Lifecycle for embedded software / firmware.

Knowledge of Cellular modem baseband and PHY building blocks and software layers.

Understanding of the end-to-end Cellular system involving the UE and network is desired.

Knowledge of major Cellular features, real-time requirements, and associated challenges.

Experience in wireless standards a significant plus (5G-NR/4G LTE/UMTS/GSM/CDMA).

Ability to quickly establish and manage sophisticated cross-functional relationships in a dynamic engineering environment.

Creative problem solver with ability to lead technical teams and cross-functional groups against plans.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills at senior management level including strong presentation skills.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $172,100 and $305,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
