At Apple, we don't just follow industry standards—we push beyond them. We value creative problem-solving, dynamic thinking, and the ability to quickly adapt to new technical challenges. If you're excited about tackling tough problems and shaping the future of amazing products, we'd love to have you on board! The Station DRI team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior System Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced calibration and performance validation systems, focusing on touch and sensor subsystems within Apple products. You will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of test systems, from initial prototyping and design to successful deployment in high-volume manufacturing environments. You will collaborate closely with module design teams to define calibration and test procedures, and develop high-precision instrumentation and test systems optimized for efficient factory operation. This role demands a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to thrive under pressure. As a Senior Calibration and Test System Engineer, you will:

- Lead the development of state-of-the-art measurement and calibration systems for touch and sensor technologies.

- Introduce and integrate cutting-edge technologies to enhance test system capabilities and drive improvements in product quality.

- Own all aspects of the test system, including hardware design, software development, vendor engagement, algorithm optimization, data analysis, and factory deployment.

- Collaborate effectively with a diverse team of experienced engineers across various disciplines, including Systems Hardware, Product Design, Reliability, Software, and Operations.

- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on complex challenges.

This position involves the design, specification, development, and deployment of specialized calibration and test systems for touch and sensor technologies. These systems are critical for ensuring optimal performance and meeting stringent quality standards during new product introduction (NPI) and mass production.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the design, development, optimization, review, and debugging of software for interacting with product, instrumentation, and motion control systems.
  • Specify and procure appropriate instruments, components, and tools for use in a fast-paced NPI environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement comprehensive test coverage strategies.
  • Conduct thorough hardware, software, and firmware validation, and perform failure analysis on testing metrology, instruments, and systems using techniques such as Gauge R&R.
  • Design and execute simulations and experiments to drive data-driven decisions, and present findings to senior management.
  • Oversee the deployment of calibration and performance verification stations throughout the NPI cycle.
  • Generate detailed reports analyzing large datasets related to touch/sensor performance.
  • Debug complex issues at the system level, down to the component level.
  • Refine existing algorithms and develop new algorithms to optimize system performance and execution time.
  • Make well-informed decisions balancing engineering requirements and manufacturing efficiency while maintaining product quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven programming skills in one or more of the following languages: C/C++, Objective-C, Lua, or Python.
  • Proficiency in both written and verbal English communication.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts.
  • Self-motivated and highly responsible, with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional, and fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in consumer electronics product development and high-volume manufacturing, with a focus on touch and/or sensor technologies.
  • Extensive experience with hardware testing, calibration, and test system bring-up, including test metrology design and validation. Familiarity with DFM and DFT principles.
  • Deep understanding of touch sensing principles, sensor calibration techniques, and related instrumentation.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools such as Matlab, Python and JMP.
  • Knowledge of embedded systems, hardware automation, and motion control.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and process control methodologies.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in test and calibration is a big plus.
