Back End Integration Engineer

Who we are: Apollo is a specialised independent (re)insurer, established in 2009, to deliver top-tier products and services to clients, brokers, and capital partners at Lloyd's. The name "Apollo" was inspired by the achievements of one of its founding investors, Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon in 1969. Together with Jim Hays, Neil identified an opportunity to create a unique service provider within Lloyd's. Since its inception, Apollo has significantly broadened its portfolio of insurance solutions. This includes Apollo 1969's traditional and specialty lines, ibott 1971's innovative sharing economy products, and managing agency services at Lloyd's through our Platform Partner Syndicates. Today, Apollo continues to grow with a team of 300 professionals dedicated to fulfilling the company's mission of enabling a resilient and sustainable world. "We attract and retain a diverse range of talent by fostering an inclusive, equitable team environment where individuals from all backgrounds have opportunities to grow, succeed, and contribute. We empower our teams to achieve excellence and drive forward-thinking solutions, aiming to enable a resilient and sustainable world." - David Ibeson, Group CEO.

Your Role

Apollo is building a new wave of automation and data services to transform how our business operates. As Back End Integration Engineer, you will join our Data and Engineering team to design, develop, and deliver innovative integration solutions that connect people, systems, and data across the organisation. You will collaborate with colleagues from underwriting to HR, shaping solutions that unlock value and accelerate our strategic goals.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with stakeholders to capture requirements, shape solutions, and translate business needs into effective technical designs
  • Design and implement integrations across transactional systems, APIs, and databases using modern cloud and microservices patterns
  • Build and maintain resilient components, including API gateways, messaging systems, orchestration layers, and user interface elements
  • Develop high-quality code in line with best practice, contributing to code control, testing, release management, and agile delivery processes
  • Support operations by monitoring applications, improving data usage, and ensuring security, governance, and regulatory responsibilities are met
  • Share expertise across the engineering community, mentoring colleagues and championing continuous improvement, product-thinking, and lean delivery

What We Are Looking For

  • Integration & Solution Design - Strong background in application and integration design, including microservices architecture, API lifecycle management, DevOps practices, and automated testing.
  • Cloud & Platform Expertise - Proficient in Microsoft Azure services, including APIM, Service Bus, Logic Apps, Functions, WebApps, storage, and networking. Strong knowledge of cloud security and access control (SAML/OAuth, RBAC) across IaaS and cloud-native environments.
  • Software Development & Automation - Skilled in C# (.NET/.NET Core), REST APIs, SQL Server (T-SQL), Python, and front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React). Experienced in automation techniques and tools such as Power Automate, Copilot Studio, cognitive services, Power Platform, and Visual Studio.
  • Data Integration & Architecture - Familiar with data integration and transformation tools (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, SQL Server), with understanding of data modelling and broader data architecture principles.
  • Collaboration & Delivery - Skilled in stakeholder engagement, Agile ways of working, and translating technical detail into business language. Understanding of the Lloyd's insurance market, its data, and processes is advantageous.

What You Will Get In Return

In addition to a fair and attractive salary, this role offers a discretionary bonus and a comprehensive range of benefits, including 31 days of annual leave, a non-contributory pension and private medical insurance.
