We are currently recruiting for a passionate and dedicated individual to come and join our APCL HR team as an HR Advisor – to provide a first-class service to our Tyne site.

A key addition to our HR Team, working alongside our current HR Advisor you'll both hold vital roles enhancing the experience of our 300+ team. Partnering with managers to resolve situations fairly and consistently with confidence and care you'll be a trusted Advisor.

You'll bring emotional intelligence, and practical HR expertise that will help drive real impact in employee relations and wellbeing, policy development and organizational change.

In a nutshell, APCL is one of the largest commercial ship repair, conversion and marine specialists of its kind in the UK. The services we provide sustains the international defense and maritime community, underpinning the availability of naval fleets whilst maintaining the vital operations of the seaborne asset community. We support of the Royal Navy, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and our Commercial Customers.

This role is 100% site-based, working closely with both internal teams and our customers who have on-site presence with us managing complex, heavy engineering projects.

So what will you do?

  • You will be key in supporting a large workforce so your ability to confidently coach and support leaders at all levels will ensure great people management across the facility independently and effectively.
  • You'll be managing complex HR cases, including disciplinary actions and will master record keeping. Workload prioritisation and distribution and the ability to identify potential risks from high volumes of admin and communications will be critical to your success.
  • You will also need to keep yourself up to date with a range of ER and wellbeing topics so that you can spot opportunities for improvement with them.
  • Developing health & wellbeing initiatives, including occupational health and return-to-work strategies.
  • You'll be reviewing and evolving HR policies across the group to keep us compliant, consistent, and compassionate.
  • Interpreting employee data you'll uncover trends and drive smarter decisions to support key HR projects and contribute to continuous improvement across the business.
  • You'll staying ahead of employment law and HR best practices to keep us future-ready you will ensure compliance across the Group by effectively communicating updates.

About You

  • We're looking for a passionate and motivated HR professional with CIPD Level 5 or above.
  • You'll have grit, determination and influencing skills that get what we need across the line.
  • Someone who thrives in a face-to-face environment using strong communication as this role requires full on-site availability five days a week.
  • Proven HR experience, especially in casework, change management, and employee relations with strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Commercial awareness, a proactive mindset and a collaborative spirit.
  • Fine-tuned communication skills that you have mastered at all levels of an organization with a professional and polite approach where empathy and diplomacy come naturally.
  • From disciplinaries and grievances to performance improvement plans, your keen eye for detail will help drive continuous improvement as you review and audit cases, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to interpret People data will enable you to identify trends and contribute to strategies that support retention and engagement.
